[hell yeah, the first piece of art for High Hopes, and my first drawing of 2020! i've also slightly changed my art style a bit so i could get this done in a reasonable amount of time. it still took like four hours though lol]

[edit: it really looks like Kas is smiling. he's not, i swear, that's just black stripes on his cheeks but it's so blurred that you can't see it well ;-; ]

Northern Lights, a young animus Icewing/Nightwing hybrid fled to the mountains to escape the Skywings. She'd killed a member of the royal family and now the entire kingdom seemed to be hunting her down. She knew she wasn't safe, but this place was better than the cities and towns. At least it seemed peaceful.

She was aware of another dragon watching her, it took her a few seconds to locate them. She couldn't tell what tribe they were from, they seemed to be a mutant of some kind. They didn't seem malicious, they just watched her silently. Perhaps they could help her. She called out to them, but they didn't respond. When the dragon stretched out its wings to take off, Northern Lights realized they must be a Skywing. They had to be, no other tribe's wings were so large.

The dragon looked over its shoulder at her as it leapt into the sky. It seemed to be requesting that she follow. Northern Lights had learned long ago not to trust anyone, but something about this stranger made her feel safe. They were small, too, she figured she could easily fend them off if they attacked her. She didn't think it would come to that, though, she somehow knew the stranger didn't mean her any harm.
