Haha, yeah, um, I... I think it wouldn't be a very good idea to try your luck against Nancy now.

Yes, this is indeed Nancy, so gather round, y'all, for it's story time.

I occasionally talk to... er... *copy-paste name* on Skype. Well, one day, out of the blue, he brought up something that this character was evidently doing: something called a "Character Interpretation Commission". I looked over what he said and thought, huh, this is interesting, he looks like a pretty good artist, and his price is reasonable: let's give this a go. I'll make what could otherwise be a VERY long story short (not that the rest of this isn't going to be brutally long) by saying that, essentially, I gave him my usual gallery links to the other pictures of Nancy that I've had done, and he then had more or less free reign to interpret the character in his own way.

It's worth knowing that probably due to a combination of being sick and thus kind of not having my brain functioning at any sort of reasonable level, as well as me thinking that hey, this is a pretty good idea, let's IMMEDIATELY get in on the ground floor before it's too late - about all I provided were said gallery links, and didn't really say a whole lot in text regarding the kind of character Nancy was, nor did I consider that doing so might have been somewhat helpful.

This isn't to say that he didn't get a pretty good idea regarding Nancy nonetheless; he could definitely pick up on the fact that Nancy was definitely a cheeky brawler type who definitely went for sex appeal - perhaps a little too much so on that last part (and considering that I knew going in based on what he'd written about the commission's purpose and based on the note he gave me, I expected to hear as such. C'mon, you've SEEN what I usually get and draw, I don't even pretend that I don't lay the sex appeal on a bit thick. We got along just fine regardless, and I was sure to tell him that I wasn't offended or anything. ;3)

I quickly started finding myself very intrigued and interested at the stream I watched this in took place, so I decided that, for the most part, I'd keep quiet about most of her personality since, dude, this is FUN... no need to point out that he's basically 100% RIGHT about how Nancy'd probably get a lot of unwanted attention in that outfit I personally gave her, the part I left out being the part where I'd normally say that, as far as she'd be concerned, sweet: More practice. After all, I didn't say so, but I totally agree that she'd be all too happy to wreck the shit out of an entire room of people if everyone started getting a bit fresh and nobody understood that continuing to go after the woman who just destroyed the 20 people before you without breaking a sweat is likely to be the last of their poor life decisions. Long story short, he got a lot about her right, even if I kept quiet about that in order to see where things went. ;3

Anyway! He decided to try making the "brawling badass" part of her personality, and crank it up a few notches. I said nothing and let him, seeing as A, I didn't want to influence his interpretation, and B, I've actually quite wanted to see more of Nancy's asskicking side and thought that this was a perfect opportunity.

Holy shit, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, and what a new (yet just familiar enough!) look it IS.

I don't know and quite frankly don't care what anyone else says, I actually like a LOT about this interpretation. The adjusted outfit, including her hair taking its own level in badassery, makes NO mistakes that NANCY MEANS SOME FUCKING BUSINESS. She's still every bit as sexy as half the phrase 'sexy badass' would imply, and still shows off just as much as ever, if not more in certain spots, while still keeping the outfit juuuust overelaborate enough to make clear that she's more than a bit of a show-off.

And, well, let me be perfectly honest - I've actually been toying with the idea of putting some extra muscle on Nancy for a while, as it makes nothing but sense for her character. But, and let's be equally honest... I'm sure you can guess that I am not good at drawing such things, and if I still wanted to get that extra muscle shown in commissions while I work on such new references myself, there are very, very few people I'd trust to do this correctly. Don't kid yourself: these days, if I said I wanted to put some muscle on a girl, just enough to make it clear that her claims that she's tough enough to kick your ass are legitimate, you KNOW that I would be lucky if I'd find damn near anyone who didn't just immediately turn her into a steroid demon whose arms are the size of a city bus.

But yeah! You know what, I'm gonna say the same thing I said to him in the stream - I'm damn fine with this interpretation of Nancy. I fully intend on letting a few other people take a crack at drawing her in her new digs, and there's definitely some things about this version of Nancy that I'd like to try having come up in later works involving her. He said it was perfectly okay, so why not take advantage? And nobody worry, I'm CERTAINLY not gonna throw out my current design for Nancy, either.

Besides, you all know what a fan I am of alternate universes and new takes on various characters of the anime world. Having the same thing done with some of my own can be quite the treat, it seems. ;3
