Saying that aperture science Is far more superior then black mesa is well meh. But infact Black mesa was more of a stand-alone facility (one building in new mexico) and aperture was a global company in shipping and Engineering and of coarse the borialis was one of their trade ships that was lost somewhere up north. so in the end black mesa and aperture both fell and had a fate but have different storys. But mabey im just being random but portal is a good game and Half-life. Hope the portal gun will be used in Half-life Episode 3. ^_^

From what I've read, Aperture first made shower curtains for the military, but the chairman went insane and created some wacked-out plan that eventually led to the research of portal technology... with possible applications as a shower curtain...
Black Mesa, however, though smaller than Aperture, had a much wider range of research, though they obviously also dabbled in teleportation technology, and we all know how that one ended...
Anyway, yes, I agree. The HL series (counting Portal) are great games, though I don't see how the Portal Gun could be used in a setting like the HL games.

imagine this : Gordon is traped in a room with no way out, but he can oversee an exit out of his reach.
he finds some conversion gel buckets, he grabs one with gravity gun, shoot it at a wall near the exit, takes another bucket, spray's some gel on the floor, changes weapon for protal gun, shoots the blue portal at the floor, aims at the wall, shoots the orange portal.
moves trought the portals and can run free again.
GlaDOS oversees all and thinks : " hummmm, interesting test subject ! "
Chell sees it to and thinks : "not bad.... for a scientist "
Advisor sees it and thinks : " SHIT !!!!! missed again ! "
