Backstory: Hundreds of years ago, Lily was one among many shrine maidens that made the Dark Forest outside Furlant safe for mortals to pass through. Her prayers and charms kept hungry monsters and demons away from travelers, but...unfortunately, had no effect on a witch passing through one day. Out of sheer cruelty alone, the witch ended the shrine maiden's life for laughs, and went on her way. With Lily dead, the shrine maidens's power decreased, and they could no longer protect travelers, or themselves, from monsters. Lily's soul lived on though, unknown to anyone else. Unable to guide the living safely through the forest, she now guides the poor souls of those killed by monsters, to the afterlife.
