HOLY BE-JESUS CHRIST SO MANY LAYERS this took so many hours of me tweaking and prodding and poking and sending to friends to get input on changes and what not. It was a first for me making my own planets and I believe it went fairly well.

I (once again) changed my style for hair because my old one would have killed me if I had to color all of that hair. THE HAIR O_O there's a reason this lineart won the May "Hair" contest.

Also, Thank you Vest for the wonderful flats ^-^ They cut a good hour off the time and that helped keep me motivated until the very end!

Also, every one head over to the club and check out the entries and be sure to vote! As always there are so many magnificent entries already! And the months not even half over! Can't wait to see all of them!

Woah! Nicely done!
I can't believe this has only 12 views - more people need to see this!

I love how you've done the hair, by the way - it has a great textured feel to it. Well, I love everything about it, really. (And the planets looks awesome, great job!)

I'm still working on my entry, and it's been almost a week now. She has too much hair!
I should've chosen something simpler for my first attempt at digital colouring. Oh well, I've gotta learn some way!

Wow, thank you! I find that unless I submit it to a bunch of groups, my pictures don't get many views... but its all worth it when I get a comment like this ^^ It really means a lot to me!

And its great you're looking into digital coloring! I'll admit this was a tough one, but hang in there! The hair was quite a doozy, and took a good hour or two (but I got distracted often )

You're welcome! Aww, thank you... *sniff*... I feel like I've done something good now.

Yeah, I didn't think I could do it, and I thought that I would completely ruin the picture while shading, but I surprised myself! And I learnt a lot through the process about colouring and using GIMP's tools.
Hmmm... now I have to work out how to do highlights and make it look more interesting. It'll probably take me another 5 days or so to finish, but it'll be worth it!

The hair... I think it took me about 4-6 hours because I'm really slow and need practice. But again, I watched TV and read my messages while doing it, so I'm not sure how much time I really took. It's great to do during ad breaks, though.

Of course you did something good!

And that's great that you're learning the program! Its been forever since I've used gimp, so I can't say I remember much about it at all And I find that most of my pics take multiple days, and I think it actually helps to get up and leave the computer for a while and come back to it later, you know?

hehe, yeah, I've been seriously looking into coloring for a little over a year now and I still have a long ways to go before I become efficient. I'd recomend looking up different pictures and tutorials to try to find a style that works best for you ^^

Aww, thank you!

Yeah, maybe I'll take breaks from the computer more frequently, especially when doing repetitive things, like shading the strands of hair. If I don't, I think I'll go insane!

It'll probably take me a long time to settle on a style - I'm always changing! But maybe that's a good thing, since I'll get more experience that way, and I guess my stuff wouldn't be considered too "boring" (I hope!).

Anyway, at least the lineart looks so good that you can't really mess it up too much!

haha, I know the feeling. Listening to music I like while I'm coloring ususally helps me out a bunch.

And I know, I feel the same way sometimes! I haven't even settled on a style yet but I'm long overdue xD so, yeah it can be good to switch it up, but you always have to try to perfect each of the styles you try to the best of your abilities before moving on to the next one. It keeps you on your toes

And yeah, the lineart really is beautiful this month. Well, its always beautiful, just sometimes a little daunting with the details

Hmm...
*goes out to hunt for motivational music* xD

I'll make sure to spend time with each style. My future work will probably end up looking like Frankenstein's monster, though, with all the styles I want to use. xD

Yeah, I've seen some of the other lineart... o.o... I wouldn't be able to even attempt it at this stage.

Oh, may I ask, what program do you use? Photoshop?

hehe, yeah, I ususally listen to some sort of techno, that way I can't tell how much time is passing cuz it all sounds the same~! xD

well, as long as your style blends slightly I'm sure it will look fine. Plenty of artists combine different techniques as they go along in their career.

And you never know what you can do until you try! But I'd recomend using simpler lineart to get used to your style and program for that matter.

And I use photoshop elements mainly, as my dad needed it for something so he paid for it and I got it free
And then I recently got Corel but I dont work very well in it just yet, I still have to figure out how to get around in it, if you know what I mean.

Yes, I'll have to find something that removes my sense of time! Thanks for that!

Yeah, I'll do simpler lineart after this one. I don't really know why I decided to enter the contest! (For motivation, yes, but for some reason I didn't see how difficult it was! I guess I thought I wouldn't really enter, but I ended up doing it anyway. )

Oh, I know what you mean. I got Elements 6.0 quite a few years ago and I had no idea what all the tools were! Unfortunately, I didn't really get to use it much as it was on an old PC and zooming in would take about 10 seconds and every five to twenty minutes it would crash and I would lose everything! (I learnt to save regularly, though!)

I've been too lazy to put it on my laptop - well, I like GIMP more, and 2.6 is pretty good (and free!), so I'll be staying with it for a while, until I get a more recent version of Photoshop or something similar. GIMP seems to have everything I need, though!

Hehe, well motivation is always necessary! (I cant even tell you how many unfinished pieces are lying around on my computer right now )

Yeah, it really depends on what version and how fast your computer is honestly... and it sounds like GIMP is a great program (and even better because its free!) and no matter what, when you switch programs its disorienting at first but it gets better, trust me I personally like photoshop, but thats just me, and because I know all about the fancy things you can do with it by now xD

Darn, I have a headache today... must. stay. motivated!
I was proofreading my mum's reports. I don't envy her.

Well, no use talking about it, I should probably get back to work!

I wasn't sure about GIMP at first, but then I found a site full of tutorials on how to make awesome effects. I don't know if they're as good as those made with Photoshop, but they look pretty cool. (I'm a beginner anyway, so it doesn't matter.)

Yeah, I had to get my head around GIMP when I first got it, since I had been getting used to the Photoshop controls - simple things like copying a selection to a different layer, or even the selection tools themselves, were quite different. I thought that I would never get used to it, but through colouring this piece, and other experiments, I've been learning.
