Description
I was asked about how i draw hair quite some times so i decided to make a tutorial to give something back to my supportive followers! :3I don't even think my hair is that great but here you go! ^-^
Read from left to right, / top to bottom~
1. choose a base color for the hair and put it on one layer
2. Protect Alpha of that layer ("preserve opacity" in SAI, so you only draw on that layer) and bring in some shading thats a tone cooler than the base color
3. Paint in some rough highlights, i think it looks nice and glossy to have them around the part too~
4./5. Choose a brush that makes multiple strokes at the same time, vary between strokes that are pointy and non-pointy and create some structure in the hair, use the colorpicking tool to work your way through the whole hair while considering the base colors from step 2 and 3, also take care about not having too many contrasting strokes next to each other so it's easier on the eye, in that case blend that part a bit and try again c:
6. I usually go over it with some more strokes for additional strands to get rid of empty looking places, the strands can go out of the hairstyle too so I get rid of the Protect Alpha/preserve opacity option here
7. to deepen the flat looking hairstyle create a Clipping Layer set to multiply and airbrush some shadows in, like in the beginning
8. repeat but this time with highlights, and the layer set to "Luminosity" (in SAI at least, try blending modes that brighten up the colors) and pay attention to lower the opacity so it doesnt look like the hair is glowing by itself
9. add in light single hairs with a normal brush for detail
10. if you like don't hold back to add even more strands with the brush from before, I like fluffy hair so I often do so :3
11.
Of course you have to follow none of this if you don't like ! I hope this helps some of you!

Sure, here they are! sta.sh/220olia7a7u4?edit=1 I tried to recreate them and realized that option that let you scale the brush form affection, i had it set to 50 all the time but it works way better at lower numbers with "flat bristle" ! oops QwQ
also, these are just the brush settings used for this tutorial to show what i generally do, when I'm home (different Pc, more brush forms >w<) I use a form called "Stringy" and i use Stringy 3 - stringy 6 i believe, and i alternate between them :3 though i made this on my mom's laptop so i didnt have these maybe you have them c:
