Description

rivaille turned to his side and heaved wracking coughs, the violence of it shaking his weakened body. he could sense the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, but at least he wasn’t throwing up anymore. dizzy, he settled back into his pillows, his throat burning, his mind feverish.

in this state of haze, he barely registered the maid gently announcing the arrival of a guest, nor did he realize the presence of another human being until a cooling hand caressed his face.

rivaille slowly blinked a few times, just to make sure his fading consciousness wasn’t playing a mean trick with his head. in a coarse, disused voice, he breathed, “…why are you here?”

"i heard you’re sick."

"…what are you doing?" rivaille pressed again, albeit failing in his glare.

"i’m here now," eren sighed, "isn’t that enough?"

"still so impulsive," shaking, rivaille struggled to sit upright, and eren hurried to help him, face paling at how thin rivaille had become. "what about your family?"

eren reached out, gently cupped rivaille’s face in both his hands, and pressed his forehead against the smaller man. “i couldn’t sit still after i heard about you. i had to be here, by your side. family honour be damned!”

"you’re jaeger’s only son." rivaille frowned, closing his eyes.

"and you’re my only happiness. please rivaille," eren gasped, tears rollled down his boyish face, "don’t turn me away. let me stay. let me take care of you."

there were a million reasons why rivaille should’ve sent eren home. the only son of a noble family, married to an equally reputable girl, eren’s future should be abundant and colourful. there was no logic to having him throw all of that away and take on social ostracism just so he could waste his youth caring for a disreputable, sickly man twice his age. not to mention eren could very well come down with the same illness.

but, feeling eren’s warmth around him, the trembling fingers that held his head, rivaille couldn’t find it in himself to reject the boy; it must be his fever, it was weakening his will. this was such a bad idea, but how his body burned, now with a different flame. he was thirsty, but not for water; his mind splitting, but not from pain.

"you’re an idiot," rivaille whispered, his stick fingers reached to grab hold of eren’s, eyes closed with resigned acceptance.

"i’m your idiot."

for who wanted a happy ending. i'm sorry this is the best i can come up with for now lllorz but maybe i'll write a Part III with a happily ever after if the right idea sappy fluff hits me. xD tho i totally didn't intend to write this much.. .__.
