This is the finished product of a drawing I did for a COPIC marker tutorial that I have uploaded onto my YouTube channel. All I have to say is Do NOT be like me and rush through coloring. As you can see there are at least 3 spots where I colored outside of my lining. On another note, WAAAAAH I forgot to include how to incorporate the blushies in the video DX. Oh well, at least it wasn't anything too major XDD. If you're curious how I did the blushy colors I simply went over the area with a V01 COPIC and then went over that with a bit of colored pencil for blending purposes. Hey I saw your video on YouTube and I was wondering if you had any advice for me. I want to use COPICS but I have to wait until Christmas for them, and I want to be able to use something for practice before I get them, that way I won't screw it up when I get the markers. Are there any cheap tools you can think of that would help?

Get some cheap Crayola or Roseart markers and practice strokes. Simple lines. Or a pointed round paintbrush with watercolorsΒ (because thats the basic shape of the thin side) will do too

I just watched this video on Youtube and let me just say that this is amazing. I'm thinking about getting a starter pack of Copic markers. Right now I only have colored pencils and they work nice but you can't really get the good shading seen in this drawing.

The light gray I used was the C1. Sorry about that XD just realized that I forgot to list that one in the list of markers I left in the description of the video.

First thank you for the tutorial on YouTube. It was helpful for me. Lol, I was going at it like a 2 year old with crayons! But now I need to buy more colors! Why must the be so expensive?!
Second, I think I know why you have a staining problem. I bet you it's the ink from your manga pens. I don't get staining on my COPICs and I think I press down harder than you. But I use the COPIC brand fine tip inking pens. It's just a thought and I wanted to throw it out there for you.
Third, I just like this picture. She's so pretty and I love the colors. You have a really good sense of shadows.

Thanks! I plan on making more tutorials eventually, and I do know that my manga markers are one of the main reasons my tips get stained. The weird part is that I typically wait for the ink to dry and the tips still get stained. I guess it really depends on the brand. Glad you found the tutorial helpful ^_^

Hey, saw your tutorial on YT, thought I'd check out your dA account. I wanted to ask, as I want to get into colouring; whether Copic Markers are good for a beginner and if not what do you recommend?

COPICS are good in the sense that they provide a wide range of colors for those wanting to start working in marker. However, the tips stain really easy so if you haven't had practice with a brush tip it'd be good to buy a marker or two just to practice with before coloring an in depth work. (such as a project that takes hours to do). There are Prismacolor markers, but I don't think they're as good (as far as I know they aren't refillable where as COPICs are, and the color selection is less), and simple Crayola markers don't come in enough shades to produce 3D effects with colors. If you're looking for professional quality and last-ability it's just easier to go with COPIC markers even if you are a beginner. Just make sure to practice and use lighter colors first so that the tips don't get stained :3

Hmm.. I used to use copics a lot and even when my tips got stained, it didn't usually affect the color output as long as I scribbled out any color in the tip that shouldn't be there. I think copics are good for all, beginners to expert, because they are easy to blend and very nice to work with. I appreciate how smooth and rich colored they are.
