Gothitelle is based on a gothic girl. Gothics like things related to death and grief, dark and gloomy places... etc. It makes no sense to me make her vulnerable to ghost and dark type attacks. That's why I created this new ability "Gothic Soul". Why didn't I make her Psychic/Dark? Well, to me, the dark type pokemon has more to do with a foul play style than with a gothic one. Also, her shiny form is inspired by Corpse Bride XD.

"Gothic Sould" seems a bit too purposely dark to work.
It would probably have been easier to just make it a psychic/dark type

I agree with you. It would have been easier to make her Psychic/Dark. But I didn't do it because Dark type pokemon are not really related to the gothic theme, the majority of them are relataed to evil, being the villan, foul play, etc. Gothics are not the "villans", they prefer to be the victim. Drama, suffering, death, suicide ... these are rather more gothic themes, and has much more to do with the Ghost type in my opinion. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if they made her mega evolution Psychic / Dark, as you put it, would be easier. (I mean, If they ever make one, Β and I really hope they do so! XD)

Well, mega Audino just leaked, so now mega evolutions are open for gen V, so who knows.
