After testing the waters with Ralos and Lord Haas, I decided to see what would happen if I tried something I had not done before. In the "Upon a Star" series, the Nightwatcher usually only appears in his shadowy form, which is that of a humanoid jackal. If someone would dare invoke the Nightwatcher, he would unleash living nightmares upon that person.

The Nightwatcher is the Planar of Nightmares, and half of the Planars who takes care of Medierth's dreams, the other being Oerbus, who deals with dreams. The first talk about him is at Volkram's trial in "Karyana's Journey" for the improper use of magical items and his excessive disciplinary practices towards Laurinya. In truth, while the information was correct, the Nightwatcher was never invoked: it was Demyan, Chime, Kaina and Laurinya who orchestrated a pseudo-attack from him on her.

In "The Waiting Ones", he physically and mentally tortures Karyana by making her relive a scene from the end of the Old World with no way out. The reason? Jealousy towards Oerbus, and being tempted by Melothios.

An idea floated that he was actually Shayn, the last biological son of Volkram Niros, who had been experimented on by his father to create a pseudo-Planar. However... had the experiment succeeded in any way, why would he need to create the Homunculi in the first place?

In "Remembered Eternity", the 'Sons of Darkness' - the other sons of Volkram Niros, now reborn by the Anarch's power - believe they can be the family he never had. For people who believe in freedom and chaos, this sounds... a bit off.
