Garret checked his new bandage for the last time, making sure it was nice and tight over the wound. The last thing he needed was to leave a trail of blood that The Watch could easily follow. They may be a lot of dumb shovels but even they have their moments. And with how close he is to getting some answers he can't afford to get captures. Just as the master thief got up and made ready to go meet Basso at the Siren's Nest, a voice stopped him.

"Are you sure you should be going out with an injury like that?" Asked the male voice that was all too familiar. Garrett didn't even have to turn to know who it was.

"I've had this injury for six nights. I'll survive, Corvo." Garret said and turned a bit to see the mature, strong face and well dressed figure of Corvo Attano.

Garrett had met the Great Protector of Empress Emily when he came to The City some time before the Summer's Day Festival last year. He was arriving to discuss a possible trades deal with Baron Northcrest between their cities. Garret planned to lift any possible good loot off Corvo for his collection. But the seemingly simple looking royal took him by surprise. He not only stopped Garret mid-pickpocketing but he even restrained him. At the time Garrett couldn't hate his slender, waif-like figure more. Corvo seemed not only to have the height and weight advantage but the greater skill experience. However things like that never stopped Garrett before. He kicked the Great Protector in the shin and when he got loose he started fighting with him. Ordinarily the master thief would turn tail, not being one for confrontation like Erin, but he wasn't going to let his pride take a beating like that. Corvo didn't hold back when he defended himself, Garrett could tell. The fighting lasted a good three minutes and the next thing Garret knew he was pinned on his back, face to face with Corvo Attano. He could almost feel the man's beard on his face he was so close. Its been a long time since someone has ever pinned Garrett down in a fight like that.

But then the strangest thing happened. Corvo let him go. He said that Garret put up a better fight than most men he's fought with. He even gave him tips on how to better spot an experienced fighter like himself next time. The master thief was in awe at the man humility, and actually smiled. It was a rare thing for him as he's usually so cynical. But somehow Corvo made him feel...warm. The Great Protector told him the inn he'd be staying at and that Garrett is welcome to visit. Garrett didn't know he he ended up going there but he did.

Soon they started exchanging histories. Then life experiences. And then....well, something more intimate. After Garrett awoke from his incident at the ritual a year ago and started to settle back in he sent in a long over due letter to Corvo. The reply couldn't come in fast enough and the pair started to reconnect. Corvo said that he would come to visit him one night and while he didn't show it the master thief awaited that night.

It seemed like it came.

"I don't care if you've had the injury for six hours. Its still bleeding, Garrett. You need some more advanced medical attention." Corvo said.

"Love to, but I don't have time for major fix ups. In case you didn't already hear, a lot has happened since last year." Garret said as he looked over his arsenal.

"Yes, I've heard. To think that this place has gotten more dark than it used to. It actually seemed brighter last year when we first met. Now everyone is at war with each other. I always wondered why the Baron hadn't responded to Emily's letters. And I have to say I was almost scared to learn the truth." The Great Protector said.

"I can imagine. Anyway, I really do wish I could talk more with you Corvo but I have to get going." Garrett said and turned to leave but he was stopped when the much larger man gently grabbed his arm with the injured hand.

"Wait....I know you don't have time for a full check up, but at least let me give you my own special treatment." Corvo said.

Before Garrett could ask him what that meant Corvo used his other hand to partially interlace fingers with Garret, used the hand holding his arm to lead to his mouth and gave the back bleeding bandage a soft kiss. Garret looked at the display of the Great Protector with a look mixed with indifference and slight annoyance. But inside he was actually touched by how much Corvo cared. The kiss lasted for only a minute before Corvo removed his lips and looked at Garrett with soft yet stern eyes.

"Come back alive. Emily wants to finally meet you in person, and I know you wouldn't want to disappoint her." Corvo said. Garret chuckled and took back his arm to strap on his quiver.

"Yeah. I'd hate to do that to Emily. I'll be sure to come back. See you around Corvo." Garrett said and turned to the window but stopped short just as he was about to leap out. "Say, Corvo?" The master thief asked.

"Yes?" Corvo asked, turning to face Garrett.

"Do you still have that aviary with all those birds?" Garret asked.

"Oh yes. And we actually got a new family of birds in. A small nest of raven birds. The babies are still in their eggs, but should hatch any week now." Corvo explained.

"I see....Would you be willing to deliver one here after they hatch and grow up?" Garrett asked.

"Why, looking for a mascot?" The Great Protector asked with a grin making Garret chuckle.

"Nah, I'm partial to cats anyway. There's a friend of mine who went through a loss, though, that would appreciate the bird more than me." Garret explained.

"See? Even as cynical as you are you're a soft touch, Garrett. I'm sure your friend will appreciate this. Do you have a particular gender and name in mind?" Corvo asked.

"Yeah, a girl....And name her Jenivere." And with that Garret leaped out the window to meet with Basso.

You just know that a bunch of people have come by to look at this but haven't got the guts to say anything.
