Chapter 1: News

It was storming when we had arrived at the house, I was pale as a ghost. Paler than Edward. I was about to tell my dad that was going to marry Edward. He found it extremly amusing it seemed, I run toward dangerous vampires who are out to kill me, or vampires that could slip up at anytime and kill me, but telling my dad I was going to marry Edward, I freak out and fear the world will end.

We got out of the car and headed over to the house. Thankfully Charile wouldn't be home for a few hours, so I had time to make a meal that would hopefully lessen the blow. I was making his favorite fish fry, using the recipe that Billy had taught me. Edward offered to help, and for the first time I accepted his help for once. I wasn't really listening though, I was just nodding and agreeing. Either way, Edward had been watching food tv for a while, and apparently his cooking skills were getting extremely good. Even with his inability to taste or smell things as a human would. I asked him to prepare the breading for the fish, he did it in such a way that only a professional should be able to do it in. He smiled, apparently enjoying watching me be in awe after seeing him do it in such a manner.

Charlie walked in shortly after we finished making the meal. We all sat down at the table, even Edward. Charlie looked a little unhappy about him joining us for dinner, but didn't say anything. Then he noticed what we were having. "Wow Bells, this looks great!" Charlie said egarly. Prehaps too eagerly

Charlie knew something was up. Either way he didn't say anything, but we all knew it. We all ate, even Edward, he hid his displeasure well. We ate with a decent conversation, but the air was tense. After we all were done, I told Charlie " Dad, there's something I need to talk to you about," Fear began to work it's way into my voice, it was cracking and I was stuttering. i gulped hard. " E-.. Ed... Edward and I.... are.... and I are... are... Go-going t-to get... M-married." I said slowly, and cautiously. I watched Charlie's face flash white. Then red began to work it's way into his face. He looked insanely angered, aggrivated. It was what I feared.

"WHAT?!" Charlie screamed at me.

I reapeated myself.

"I forbid it." Charlie said flatly, trying to stay calm. It wasn't working at all.

Edward was the one that spoke this time, it was obvious I was in no condition to argue with Charlie, I was considerably paler than Edward now. I made him look like he had a tan like those found in Hawaii. " I mean no dissrespect sir, but you have no authority over Bella's actions anymore. She is a legal adult." Edward responed calmly to Charlie.

If Charlie had actually heard Edward, he sure didn't show it. Clarlie was heading over to where his police gear was. It was unfortunate he had a loaded gun. "I don't give a damn!" Charlie screamed at  Edward. He drew his gun and pointed it at Edward. "No one who hurt my Bella so badly, will ever marry her!" His finger moved as if to pull the trigger. He looked at Edward with more hate and loathing than anyone should be able to.

Edward was a little surprised. Apparently even he didn't expect Charlie to do this, even if he saw it in his mind. Charlie did something again that even Edward didn't expect, likely a split second decision. His gun went off and hit Edward in the shoulder. Edward gave off the proper reaction for getting shot. He winced because of the pain and swore several times. Finally, I interviened. I stepped in front of Edward, Chralie put his gun down, apparently he wouldn't risk hitting me. "Dad?!" I was scared, i couldn't believe that Charlie shot Edward. I knew that Charlie didn't like Edward, but I didn't know that he didn't like him enough to shoot him. His look of utter loathing peirced my heart as if he had shot me too, I was terrified of him. My voice cracked. "Why are you acting like this? Just because I chose Edward over Jacob, your prefered choice? Or Because Edward made one mistake that hurt me?" I spoke carfully, trying not to scream out in agony. Seeing how angered he was caused me to ache. I fought to stay calm. " that could of happened to anyone. if Jacob had made that mistake, would you still be this mad?"

It was too obvious. Charlie wanted me to pick Jacob so badly, that he was blinded by anything else. Though my words stung him. It was clear I was right. It looked like someone had hit him over the head. Charlie thought that Edward might leave me again, and he didn't want it to happen again. When he had left me I had become no more than a robot.  Then Jacob healed me. I was able to look alive again. "The wedding is set for August first," I told him sternly. "come if you want, but if you don't, I'll understand. But after that i'll be moving out for college. You likely won't be seeing me much now, and afterwards, you likely won't see my untill Christmas, so..."

At first Charlie looked even angrier with my decision. Then the redness in his face began to decrease. He looked torn, and like he wanted to cry. He was pale. Not as pale as I was, but Edward was now the darkest one here. " I... I see." He tried to stay calm, it didn't seem to be working too well.

" I promise, I will  take good care of Bella." Edward gave Charlie his word. He gave it to him as an oath.
