While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news…

Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide www.epa.gov/climatechange/indi… . This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.

Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?

While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park billingsgazette.com/news/local… ) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.

Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.

There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.

Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

It has come to my attention that my work closely resembles this one pepey.deviantart.com/art/globa… which was made 2 years before mine. I have never seen this until after I posted my drawing, and people started telling me about the similarities between the two. I did not copy the idea and the similarities are purely coincidental. Congrats to pepey who came up with it first, but please do not assume that I plagiarized.

Actually, "global warming" ended around the year 1996. The freak weather patterns that have followed and intensified during the years are just some of the many signs that the sun is going into a dormant state (between other things), and that actually means "(extreme) global cooling," which we are rapidly going into right now. The glaciers never melted due to man-induced global-anything, they are in fact expanding right this moment. It's all part of a natural cycle, just like seasons are. Good place to start getting informed would be www.sott.net/category/4-Earth-…

And by the way, vegan or vegetarian lifestyle does more bad than good, not only to the human consuming it, but to the environment as well; but especially to the human consuming it.

More on topic, I do admire and appreciate your art. Would add to favorites, but I already did some time ago

There's just a lot of disinformation being spread around. Most of the time it's not with bad intentions, and that's what makes it worse. I'm glad it helped you. Knowledge protects.

The evidence shows that humans are having an alarming effect on the planet and global warming is very real.  Though climate change is a part of the natural cycle, we are accelerating it quite unnaturally.  Of course the powers that be, government + big business, are spreading propaganda out of self-interest to keep people ignorant and focused on consumerism.

Also, it's been proven that the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle is healthier for humans and the environment.  The industrialized farming industry constantly puts out misinformation to brainwash people into thinking otherwise, but more and more doctors are speaking out in support of a plant based diet.  I've experienced this personally as well.  After going vegan, my health issues improved and I have more vitality than ever before.  Keep up with current research, and check to see who is behind the information you are getting.  Remember that these industries sit on government boards and protect their own interests ahead of serving the public.

Thank you!!! In school I was trying to tell my peers that eating more meat than needed to maintain health is essentially a waste of energy, but so few people listen or care, or they value good taste over conserving energy. It's despicable how society has gotten used to these luxuries like farmed meat; you're my hero for being an environmentalist (and a great artist too)!

Amazing work.

Even if it were based on the same idea (which is not) it would be no plagiarism at all, since you made this all by yourself and looks nothing near the other piece. They are just 2 seperate artworks involving the theme of global warming with a general (not copyrighted) shape of hourglass (which represents time). It looks stunning!

May I ask how you drew/painted this? You do not have to reveal your secret, just curious what programs you use.

not to mention, a good amount of polar glaciers contain methane gasses that are slowly being released as of a good year and a half ago.

A really good representation of what is about to happen unfortunately you are both right and wrong. If a big portion of people started changing the little things they do in life it would clearly have an effect but unfortunately not everyone does have the option of doing those changes not to mention that the amount of damage fossil fuels are creating can not be amended by the actions of us all as individual people.
Yes, this is a countdown but for us to slow it down everyone has to take part.
