While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news…

Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide www.epa.gov/climatechange/indi… . This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.

Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?

While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park billingsgazette.com/news/local… ) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.

Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.

There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.

Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

It has come to my attention that my work closely resembles this one pepey.deviantart.com/art/globa… which was made 2 years before mine. I have never seen this until after I posted my drawing, and people started telling me about the similarities between the two. I did not copy the idea and the similarities are purely coincidental. Congrats to pepey who came up with it first, but please do not assume that I plagiarized.

Hey Yummei I hawith all your artwork and it's beautiful and signature style, I love all the messages you deliver so beautifully and how you do it in such an intelligent way.  So I was wondering if we could use Countdown to help us with delivering our message.  Me and my mom set up a table at the mall or other various areas where there are large groups to try and inform people on climate change and its effects on the environment and all living things.  I showed my mom your artwork and she loves it and also loves the way you express the message... so anyway back to the main point I was wondering if you could grant me your permission to print this picture and put it on an easel next to our table and above it in big bold letters saying, "Our countdown has already begun" we think it'd grab peoples attention in an instant.  I'll also put a little plaque next to it saying the artists name and giving all credit for the artwork to you.    Thank you Yummei for your beautiful art work... and I hope you can reply soon.

i hate the way this generation is acting, thinking they own everything, wasting energy, im ashamed to be part of this generation, i cant wait till the coastal area's of the world flood, then we will really know its time to stop using so much energy, but by then, its all gonna be over, its gonna be too late.

i cant wait...

I don't usually stop by this World-thing themes, but the meaning is just so simple... and I see so much truth behind it.
Nature tells us when things are changing. We must take conscience.

Batterfly-Midnight In reply to ??? [2013-11-13 15:43:36 +0000 UTC]

I find your picture very meaningful. I like your style and the theme that you want to bring over. Climate change is an issue that affects us all, and in many places has consequences. This you express very pregnant. Super!
I have a question: Could I possibly use the image in a report? I have to write a report for my university, I wanted to write about global warming, your picture would fit perfectly, can I please use it? I give sources of course.

LordMycelium In reply to ??? [2013-11-06 20:23:55 +0000 UTC]

Wow, such an amazing work! I think there unfortunately aren't many people who can realize the truth as you can and additionally, transform it in such a beautiful work!
I guess one of the biggest problem concerning our world is that people always keep saying "Yeah, but it has no effect if I do something about it..", this just leads to a spreading "psychological desease" of ignorance and stupidness ending up with nobody caring, "the others will, of course...".
If you ask me, I don't even know if it will be possible that some day, enough people will understand the situation of themselves and also their children and grandchildren.
It would be sooo easy for us to cover a few square kilometres in dried out, tropical deserts with photovoltaic cells...then send the energy to all over the world and for example directly split up sea water, you could use the H2 and the solar energy to create methane and then use it as a fuel of any kind in an eternal, non-harming circle...if all would work at it, we could achieve this within only a few years..but here is the problem:

Big investions of this dimension cost much money. And maybe they aren't profitable for our generation yet. And many governments in the world still seem to think that a state has to be independend from all of the others. But this thought is false. Today, the organizations and borders of many states have nothing to do with a geographical logic construction, we must finally accept that maybe in the end, the northern parts of the world will be depending on the energy of the equatorial regions and so on.
As big as humanity is now, there is no other possibility to adapt to regional conditions and try to form a "superorganism[I'm not writing about communism, don't misunderstand this]" that enables a sustainable and friendly use of the planet. Today, humanity is like a bunch of tumors having spread over earth, and if they don't form themselves to a senseful and respectful tissue, their host will die, and they with it.

(and finally, yuumei please tell me which program did you use to draw this? ^^)
