While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news…

Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide www.epa.gov/climatechange/indi… . This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.

Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?

While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park billingsgazette.com/news/local… ) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.

Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.

There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.

Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

It has come to my attention that my work closely resembles this one pepey.deviantart.com/art/globa… which was made 2 years before mine. I have never seen this until after I posted my drawing, and people started telling me about the similarities between the two. I did not copy the idea and the similarities are purely coincidental. Congrats to pepey who came up with it first, but please do not assume that I plagiarized.

Actually, no. There are five times as many polar bears now as there were 60 years ago.

It's probably not fair to expect artistic types to examine science papers but you really should not believe everything you are told without question. If you really want to look into polar bears I suggest you Google the work of one of the foremost scientists on the subject, Dr. Susan Crockford.

BTW, the northern ice cap this year extended as far south as Korea and Southern Japan. I wonder if DA will let me upload a composite NASA satellite image that is not my own work?

This picture is both symbolic and beautiful! Love it!
Also, I agree with you. People need to stop looking at only their own front porch, and realize that every single piece of plastic that anyone dumps on the street end up somewhere... usually in the sea. Every time we don't recycle something, it ends up being burned, releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which heats up the planet. Every time we use a car, we put small ash particles in the air which will land on the arctic ice caps (among other places) which makes the ice dark and speeds up the melting. And while it seems like a little... we are billions on this planet. And if all of us do small damage, it'll be huge very quickly. If you at all can, don't use plastic. Carry your fruit and other groceries in a cloth bag instead of putting it in a plastic bag in a plastic bag for example. Sort your waste. Recycle plastic, metal, glass and paper at least. It's easy.

Im-nothingspecial [2017-09-04 01:19:34 +0000 UTC]

Sad to say it, but at the rate the ice caps are melting, polar bears will most likely be extinct, New Orleans will be gone; pretty much any city below sea level or one that is already close to high water will be gone. More natural disasters will most likely occur, since the weather is changing so drastically...
Because we screwed things up so much, it's practically too late to turn back and try to change the environment now. The damage is pretty much done, though it would be nice to see everything looking a little bit cleaner, less energy being used, and having the air just a bit fresher.
Beautiful artwork by the way! Keep up the great work~ ♥

Yuumei, I'm shocked and disappointed at you.

This piece that has gotten so much popularity and fame for you, one of your most iconic pieces - appears to be an embellished and anime-fied version of this somber original:

Yes, you did mention it loosely, but few people could believe the similarities - the color scheme, theme, the images themselves, are merely coincidental. You yourself don't extend anyone else the benefit of that doubt. You've hounded another girl to death for plagiarizing your art before, which is fair, but what's this? I hope your fans aren't so blinded with their devotion as to not want an explanation here.

"update: yes, you have my permission to use this artwork, as long as you don't alter it and give a proper credential."

OH HEY. GUESS WHAT THAT MEANS? It means Yuumei's free to use it as reference, and you probably need to read or re-read Pepey's description, learn to fact-check, and not jump to assumptions.

Just because her illustration has similarities, doesn't mean that Wenqing Yan copied his "design." You cannot copyright your ideas. For the love of God, what struck you in the head to accuse Wenqing Yan of copying his design and the way he illustrated his opinion on global warming? Yes, Ferdi Rizkiyanto first came up with an idea to illustrate the truth about global warming, two years later Wenqing Yan did the same in her style and her way. But that doesn't mean she plagiarized his design and his art. Wenqing Yan expressed in her way what she thinks about global warming. Just because something has similarities, it doesn't mean it's 100% plagiarized. You cannot protect ideas, design, personality traits, style, and coloring, but the illustrations you have created are something that you CAN copyright. Next time do a research and hire a professional tutor to teach you the difference between originality and plagiarism. After all, the author you mentioned wasn't on the site for several years. Even if Ferdi Rizkiyanto is active, I doubt if he would do anything about this. Read the description, before you decide to judge someone.
