While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news…

Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide www.epa.gov/climatechange/indi… . This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.

Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?

While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park billingsgazette.com/news/local… ) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.

Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.

There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.

Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

It has come to my attention that my work closely resembles this one pepey.deviantart.com/art/globa… which was made 2 years before mine. I have never seen this until after I posted my drawing, and people started telling me about the similarities between the two. I did not copy the idea and the similarities are purely coincidental. Congrats to pepey who came up with it first, but please do not assume that I plagiarized.

is it just because you found it really "similar" to the others art that's why you think she's copying others art? there are more than 1000 artworks out there, and there MUST be some artworks that are similar to each other but it doesn't mean that they're copying :/

#NotAFanOfHer

I see some similarities here, but hey, about the color scheme, she was drawing North Pole, so... the blue color is the main one, right? Because we are seeing 'ice' here. The city under that show the clearest what topic she is talking about, so she chose that, what is so wrong with it? Sure the idea of those 2 look pretty similar when you make a glance, but to be honest, people can have same idea. There are 7b people on this earth.

I really don't see anything wrong here.

also to add onto my comment, IDEAS ARE NOT COPYRIGHTED LMFAO. YOU CANNOT PLAGIARISE A THEME OR AN IDEA YOU FUCKING AUTIST. SHE DIDN'T COPY OR TRACE IT DIRECTLY AND YOU CAN TELL THAT THERE ARE MUCH MORE DIFFERENCES. THE ONLY FUCKING SIMILARITY IS THE FACT THAT IT'S AN HOURGLASS FOR FUCKS SAKE...... ARE WE REALLY PUTTING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ON HOURGLASSES NOW...? HER COLOUR SCHEME IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ARE YOU FUCKING BLIND?

haha never mind, you aren't even an artist, of course you wouldn't know jack shit about copyright or colour schemes, you just want attention.

haha, go fuck yourself. she already mentioned that her design was entirely original, she did not copy it, the two illustrations just happen to have a similar theme/idea

This is a whole other style of art. There are many pieces of art just like this one with the same design and theme. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO A DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEME. What is she gonna do, make the water yellow?!?! Maybe you shouldn't look at the dates and the color scheme but. the style before accusing people of copying.

It's so sad 😭 that  our leaders allowed all of this destruction to take place on planet Earth 🌏. This is our home 🏡  and as for now there is no other place we can go to if we continue on this path of destruction. What is true for all humans on Earth 🌏 is that greed kills because it clouds judgement so much that positive solutions can't be reached.

I like this piece and I know that it's somewhat old and the data from misleading studies was still the most up-to-date back in 2011 but I just want to say - as someone currently attending the nation's #1 agricultural school - to be careful about placing the blame on livestock. All the livestock industries in the United States only make up 4% of our total emissions and beef cattle are at about 2.2%. Even if everyone in America participated in "Meatless Monday" (ie, *everyone* stopped eating meat one day out of the week), total emissions would only go down about... .6%, or something around there. It's negligible. And while it's true that cows do belch methane, the industry as a whole is definitely moving in the right direction, as America has the cleanest and most efficient livestock industry in the world and I think that's something to be proud of.

[My source for this is my professor who has done studies on this sort of thing so I'm not just making up numbers, I can provide statistics if anyone is interested]

Otherwise, I think this is a good message, and I love the piece and everything (from an artistic standpoint especially I think it's beautifully executed), but just want to make sure that numbers are correct and that people aren't getting the wrong impressions. Driving your car less and recycling and etc. and moving away from fossil fuels is going to do a lot more than not eating meat - which remains an efficient way to use our resources when you consider that cattle are raised mostly on land which cannot grow crops on it. That's an important fact that people tend to gloss over for some reason, I guess because on the Internet, unfortunately, there's a lot of weird, twisted people with some sort of anti-meat/anti-livestock agenda. I see them all too often and that's how this sort of stuff gets propagated and it's really unfortunate. :/ So this is just a friendly reminder to everyone to do a bit of research and always check those kinds of claims when people make them, because unfortunately they aren't always truthful.

Great piece, though! Always good to see people who care about the Earth.

Sincerely,

A UC Davis Animal Science student (2nd year)

The guy (or group) have been creating hundreds of accounts for spamming for a year now. Because it's not one account, it (apparently) can't be stopped. I've tried reporting as many as I find but new ones are popping up daily. They constantly spam on yuumei and Artgerm

The best you can do is report them.

Very beautiful artwork. I just disagree with the message. Before the year 2000, the big craze was that the world was going to freeze over. Scientists were saying that people who lived in the north were going to have to move down towards the equator. Then 2000 rolled around, and we weren't in another ice age. Now 'Global Warming' is a big thing.. I don't think the ice caps are in any horrible danger. Earth temperatures have been rising and dropping for thousands of years, and we're fine. The ages before us were fine. No one can really know, though, I guess. But this is a lot better than I can do!
