Most forestation projects do replant the trees but the damage is already done. They take a diverse biome filled with hundreds of different trees and plants, mow it all down, and then replant with just Palm trees. The ecology of the forest is effectively broken and the land is turned into a tree farm suitable for only harvesting Palm oil.

A forester also told me how there are tree diseases which are each spezialized in one tree species. So if you have an x-tree in a forest full of x-trees, the whole x-forest will be infected and dead in no time.
Monotony is destructive more often than not, and this counts for forests too.
The only thing I know where diversity is also destructive is when we're talking about the consequences of globalization.
For example, they brought a dangerous fungus from Asia which spread in our Europen forest, and it kills trees from the inside, with a 1/10 survival rate. It's enough for the fungus to get on a tree's leaf, from there it goes through the branches, into the trunk.
Foresters can't do anything about it but watch trees die from the fungi, or they cut them down to prevent the spreading. But trees die either way, because of a fungus which got here by the hands of humans in the first place.
Also, people from around the world "accidentally" bring new animals which end up roaming around freely and influencing the eco-system negatively as well.

Wish it was that easy, everytime we plant one tree, five others get cut down. Only alternative is if they make cardon dioxide abosrbing facilities more common throughout the world l, but who is going to spend on that since everyone likes to live in the present and not worry about the future π
