Description Okay, I know I’m royally late with this, but I finally got it finished. I’ve had so many influences and so many sources of inspiration, that’s hard to choose. But here goes nothing:

- is my comrade in arms when it comes to scifi and not only a talented designer, but his feel for lighting, composition and drama are a constant source of rip off… I mean, inspiration for me.
- Macross is at the very edge of my childhood memories. I think I caught only one episode when I was little before it was taken off the air again. But jetfighters changing into giant robots that shot up aliens? A ginormous spaceship that had a super cannon that could blow up half a fleet in one go? That was awesome sauce for my innocent little mind!
- Daniel Simon is a German designer working for major car companies. His view on streamline and function follows form is a great source of inspiration. Dude has great taste in women too. Just check his book ‘Cosmic Motors’ ([link] ).
- X-planes (and German WWII prototypes too) are also a great way to get yourself thinking outside the box.
- X-men. I’ve been a big fan of the X-men for as long as I can remember. I always snuck into the store to read them before they chased me away.
- The Black Hole ([link] ). Ever since the first time I saw the USS Cygnus light up from the inside like some gothic space greenhouse, I’ve been madly in love with this design.
- is a guy with an insane talent for detailing and weird configurations that still look totally believable. I wish I had but a fraction of his capability for greeblies
- Classic muscle cars. What can I say? Roaring V8’s, aggressive fronts and sweeping bodylines. Nothing beats the cubic inches, baby!
- MechWarrior was one of the first (along with Macross) Mech related scifi I came across and both the designs and the intricate background blew me away.
- Ghost in the Shell. Beautiful animation, gripping storyline, fantastich tech designs. Both the OVA and the series have it all.
- Akira ([link] )was the first serious Anime I watched, secretly, on a new years eve. The level of SFX and detailing, the massive super city and the f*cked up ending have had a huge impact on my imagination.
- Masamune Shirow. Now this is a guy who knows how to draw Mechs… and babes… and babes in mechs.
- Forbidden planet ([link] ). This is a must-see classic. The scene where they take the elevator down into the underground city of Krell and walk inside a giant machine that completely fills the interior of the planet was such an eye-opener for me. Make no mistakes, folks. Babylon Five took it from this classic movie. The scale of such a machine taught me there are no limits. Think big, think very big.
- Star Wars Incredible Cross-sections. Star Wars! Space Ships! Details! Lovely, minute, exquisite details. Every frigging component that makes up these ships is there!
- Wing Commander III was the first interactive space opera, i.e. videogame, I played. Space carriers ftw! I still have the original goodies that came with the box.
- Heavy Industry in general is a great way to get inspiration. Did you know that Aliens was shot in a closed down nuclear powerplant? Goes to show that you don’t have to go far to go scifi!

Very cool to be included like this man. you made a great influence map here. I know it's very difficult to select what'll be on it and what not, because in reality there's truckloads of influences... Nice choice to include Forbidden Planet!
