Because the Beetleheaded Merchants are awesome!
They're definitely supposed to have a Middle-eastern look (one part of Nicklodeon's Avatar supersite even refers to the sandbenders as having sold Appa to 'the Bedouins').
I wish we'd seen more of these guys as they seem really cool! They have funny beetleheads and ride giant beetles!

What I really like about this piece, is how in depth you went into the character itself! From his costume, to his possessions and descriptions of such, even to the positioning of his hands, as it befits such a character! You did a truly excellent job on this piece!

I gotta agree with A_M that it looks like one of those character depictions in concept art books. Which probably explains why I like this peice a lot, character concepts are always fun to look at :]
Also, his expression and hands are excelllllleenntttt [/Mr. Burns voice] And I'm diggin' the detail put into the outfit and various knick knacks the merchant has. You're just getting better and better with every peice I gotta say :]

Hehe - yeah, I had that kind of concept art / visual guide look in my head as I was working on this
The hands were really tricky for me because I'm no good with hands, but they were still fun to draw

And here we see a Gilacorn! Only small ones exist today, but I figured it'd be cool for them to use Gilacorn hide...it'd be symbollic of the way they're now masters of the creature that used to harass their ancestors

Excellent drawing and concept. This is close to being a best of deviant on my list. I especially like the hands and feet. If you could work up the lines of his face and helm, and the profile view of his face, I'd definately add it. And see if you can add a tiny bit more definition to his form and clothing. The jewelry is exceptionally good.

Alright, but as it's my list, I'm entitled to my opinion. This here is almost a sellable, professional concept. It's just a few details away. But if you can see how to do better, by all means do it!
