Description
These are the first freehand drawings I have done since 9th grade. I usually do mechanical stuff for school (drafting) but I am planning a 3 minute freehand animation of tails and need a bit of practice. The goal is to set an all original animation of tails to The Offspring’s “Meaning of Life”. I intend to draw about 550 freehand drawings, scan them in, digitally “fix” them, and draw the intermediate frames in the computer. I figure at 2:56 I will need more then 4000 frames when its all said and done but there may end up being recycled frames when he is doing repetitive things like running. My goal is to achieve the drawing style that was prevalent when I was into this stuff, a cross between the early Archie comics, “The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog” cartoons, and the Genesis game animations.
These sketches are all out of proportion but it’s a start. I surfed the ‘net for the various styles of drawing tails and took a few pages of notes on what is always there (his three tufts of fur on his forehead for example) and what was necessary for the style of animation I want to reproduce. Of what I have here I particularly like the third one. It has that bushy look to his face without excessive detail. His tails still need work; I know I can give them the life that they deserve. I have yet to get his hands anywhere near satisfactory.
The Character Miles "Tails" Prower depicted in these drawings and all others like it is the property of SEGA.
