Description
Got very bored of doing simple compositions with a big, high-contrast primary object in a pretty bland scene - decided to go for a really complex backdrop to get over this fear of clutter.Related content

Maybe your best piece. Very nice sculptural object in center. Background is muted so it's not cluttered. You are correct to practice in gray tones, get mastery of it first. Build on the ideas you have in that object (space craft? Power generator? Magic thing?) and design a segment of city based on those design forms. Use it to do architecture.

Thanks for the critique! I agree that the design and forms here are my best so far. I'll try re-working it with your advice when I can!

Good work; tilted camera angle and framing work well here.

really interesting compositionally. is there a story behind this?

Thanks! No story yet; it's supposed to be a vertically-launched spaceship getting refueled. It's not that obvious though; it definitely needs another painting or two to really tell that story

Nice one! Love the sense of scale in this. Of course now the next step is colouring it..... You lucky thing you!

I'd never understand how boredom leads to something like this.
