I just feel that the necklace is a little too Air-Nomady, and that confused me for a moment design-wise as I automatically started looking for visual cues from the other nations.

I think you may be right, perhaps I should have added something from the Fire Nation and Water Tribe as well. I like the idea of the Avatar adopting a piece of each nation's culture.
