Description
Here is an explosion tutorial as Leth requested, although I don't think I'm so good at explosions that I can teach how to draw them... But I can teach some of the principles behind them! But the best thing to do is really to watch video of explosions. (Some links are supplied in the Flash)
Edit: I just learned that "flame" explosions are officially called BLEVEs (pronounced "blev-ee"), or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions. You can look up this term on youtube to see a bunch of them!
Additionally, a deviant named ~ProfessorDoom has commented about the collapsing of the mystery of gamma ray bursters (pun intended):
"The core of the hypernova collapses directly into a black hole and two extremely energetic jets of plasma are emitted from its rotational poles at nearly the speed of light. These jets emit intense gamma rays, and are a candidate explanation for gamma ray bursts. In recent years a great deal of observational data on gamma ray bursts significantly increased our understanding of these events, and made clear that the collapse model produces explosions that differ only in detail from more or less ordinary supernovae. Nevertheless, they continue to sometimes be referred to in the literature as hypernovae. The word hypernova itself was coined by S.E. Woosley. [link] " Check the link for more information!

pretty awesome!
kind of inspiring as to how one could put a lot of technical knowledge to artistic use.
thnx!

This is absolutely amazing. Not only do you teach more about the artistic structure of explosions, but also the scientific structure. I really felt like I was immersed in something I would usually receive from the Discovery science channel. (No no, that's a good thing. <3 )
Kudos to you, my friend.

For me, it's important to learn how things work! That's how I learned to draw motor vehicles--from the inside out! It always helps with my drawing! Thanks for your compliment!

Wow. That was really confusing...but I think I understand this sort of stuff a bit more now, X3
I used to think explosions were just a bunch of kabang.
Oh oh oh, I also liked watching the explosions. XD

He he, thanks, I had to add in some animations so it wouldn't just be a boring lecture!

You should become a science professor. You'd be the whack-job teacher who rides to the school on a motorcycle and all the kids remember forever. xDD
Very well explained, I learned quite a bit of the why's and how's of explosions from this. I wanna try to lock this in by trying to drawing some, now. The last time I drew an explosion was a very band and generic mushroom-cloud in 6th grade. |D;; And it honestly was a "mushroom-cloud," I mean it looked like a giant one just started growing in the distance, minding it's own.

Thanks Corv, I was really considering a job as a teacher, but my Mom is a teacher, so I get to see the negative side first hand... it's not pretty! It's easier and possibly more effective for me to share knowledge in this manner for now!
I'm glad you liked it!! We don't see explosions everyday in life (hopefully xD ) so they're kind of out of our consciousness when we try to draw them...

Thank goodness! Currently, there isn't a lot of practical application for this information in our society xD But it's still cool to know, especially for artists who have to recreate a believable world!

Wow...
A little more (okay.. a lot more) wordy than I thought it would be.. but that's not a bad thing in this case.
Very well thought out and informative, but... I didn't get bored either...
this is a good tutorial.
I'll definitely use some of this when drawing explosions (that, I'll be honest, avoid drawing because I'm not too good at it)

Cool, I hope I explained it adequately enough so that when you come to drawing one, you go, "OK... so.. this happened, and this is like this, so the explosion will erupt forth like -this-..." Thanks for watching it!

Holy dang that was one bitching tutorial. You really know your stuff. Lost me a little with that low amplitude wavelength jazz, but that's probably my fault, not yours. Otherwise I got pretty much everything, which surprised me- usually I don't actually learn much from tutorials. But this was really interesting. They should teach real science classes like this- then maybe I'd actually pay attention. Now I am so going to have to try drawing explosions.
That was really cool. You should do more tutorials!

i love your deviations. 9/10, i learn something that will never help me in life, but is stupidly interesting anyway.
this was one of those nine out of ten times. it definitely rates up there with your tutorial (or uh, your posting of links) about the strong force, i continue to amaze people with my knowledge about that to this very day.
i might just have to try an explosion some time soon. another fantastic deviation from you ♥

It does seem more like a science lesson, doesn't it! It took me a day to make. I'd guess as long as it took me to make the Lycosa flash, 12 hours or so.
