really pretty
is it maya, aztec, or both?

Thanks! Definitely a mix and match, I gathered a lot of various ancient temple references to build my designs from. In addition to Mayan and Aztec designs, the Khmer architecture from Cambodia was a major influence as well, particularly Angkor Wat.

Thank you very much! Once I finish the 3D version I'll have to record some video of walking around in it, it'll be a far cry from actually visiting such a place but still should be pretty cool.

Oh, that would be fantastic! I would definitely love to see it when you are done.
Is this project for a game of some kind? There are many games that I have played partly because the environment was just so beautiful! You can definitely get lost in places like this.

It sort of is, in the sense that it is using a game engine and meant to work within the limitations of environment art for console games, but I'm not actually making it for any real project. Just for fun and practice.

Awesome...is this supposed to be from FF7?

Thanks! It's actually a design of my own creation based on an exaggeration and derivation of some real-world ancient temples.

It looks like some of it was inspired by Aztec or Inca Arcetecture (did I spell that right?).

ZackF In reply to treeguy101 [2010-07-06 16:42:22 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Yeah, I have a big library of reference images including both Aztec and Inca stuff. Another big inspiration was Khmer architecture from Cambodia, like the Angkor Wat.

It is indeed a building, an ancient temple complex. Do a google image search for it, it's a pretty amazing place.

Thank you very much! The way the blues and yellows are blending in the background was something I'm particularly happy with too.
