"The Terran Commonwealth Rough Terrain Bipedal Mecha (RTBM) is a specialized weapons platform designed to provide heavy fire support and protection for Commonwealth infantry forces in terrain that are deemed unsuitable for deployment of tracked or hovercraft based armor support.
Nicknamed the 'Stomper', since it's introduction during the War for Belisarius IV, the first generation mobile weapons platform had been found increasingly used in urban, mountainous, jungle and similar planetary environments where conventional battle tanks are not suited for deployment, proving their worth through superior manuvourability with their bipedal robotic locomotion.
Their standard loadout includes dual medium laser cannons and dual medium particle cannons, with additional armaments such as heavier versions of said weapons, machine guns turrets and missile pods for anti-infantry and anti-armor purposes could be refitted at will, making the Stomper a versatile vehicle.
Other features include an experimental kinetic-shielding technology, similar in principle to artificial gravity generators aboard starships, that enables protection against conventional bullets, missiles, artillery shells, and even limited protection against hyper-velocity coilgun munitions and particle beams, reducing the Stomper's titanium alloy armor requirements and thereby reducing weight that could limit their manuvourability and speed. The shield could be regulated by a seventh-generation quantum-nanoprocessor tactical computer core, which also allows for effective co-ordination movement of its legs and high accuracy targeting solutions, and is sufficiently advance to even control the mech under a 'Rabbit mode' in event of absence of or a compromised pilot. A micro-fusion generator provides power for the mech's motor and weapons systems, with two heat-sinks in the rear to provide coolant for both.
Among the main flaws of the Stomper is its specialization for rough terrain - while it rivals conventional tanks in terms of firepower, in open terrain it proves inferior in both manuvourability and speed of tracked and hovercraft vehicles and barely able to match in terms of protection. The bipedal legs provides a further weakness as disabling even one with a well-placed trap is sufficient to cripple the vehicle, which is exploited with increasing frequency in many conflicts...

You, sir, are awesome. Reading this made my week, and you've planted the seeds of a few ideas for future work. Thank you so much!

"I hear civvies like to complain that Stompers are 'walking coffins with guns' or something--that if someone takes out a leg, we're dead meat."
"Well, we'll just shoot first then."

"Stay back! Those damn alien bastards got trip-mines down the streets... left leg's gone, can't move, and they're closing in to finish the job... You won't make it in time, pull back! Pull back and - "

[There's a reason why walkeing robots are looked down upon in hard sci-fi - they are rarely practical as a military weapon. That's why here they are portrayed as specialized vehicles that are only effective at terrain where tanks cannot move. If they ever square off they'll be slaughtered]

[Come to think of it; I think the Rebellion must have agents infiltrating Imperial weapons-design firms. So many obvious weaknesses on Imperial equipment CAN'T be a coincidence.]

[Maybe the Empire just kills the Bothan spies out of embarrassment. XD Especially when they get lazy and put in REALLY obvious weaknesses that STILL make it to the final product. Like on the first Death Star--seriously, a thermal exhaust port, **in space**, that leads straight to the main reactor? And it's ONLY shielded against lasers? Come on...]

If this was a game bot appoint, it would be so hard to take down.
Quick flanking and use of cover (and a lot of it) seems the best option if your ground bound and too close, but a attack from above seems the best option. Mortar or Grenades from cover may also work.
But that's only if you are only going up against just one, and obviously could move to a new position with stealth or sufficient speed, that it could not just obviously power blast your area to rubble.
Nicely done.

Heh, Thanks, but it was all first impression stuff.
Like a quick "what if" scenario.
Just put myself in the canyon that was in the picture and thought, "what's the first thing I'm thinking if I turn a corner and see something like that?
Well actually second or third, as the first would be the words that go with #@%@#% and then RUN!
