Description
Handmade paper and resin long-tailed hummingbird sculpture. Being life-size, this little guy was quite fiddly to make,especially cutting out such small feathers with my trusty scissors! Painting was the fun part, using bright acrylic paints and even some iridescent ones too. Hummingbirds are such beautiful little creatures!Related content

I hung the hummingbird in front of blue paper with some really good lighting, then in photoshop I cloned out the thread holding the bird up, little bit of trickery!!

oh you just hung it up xD i was like "is he holding this bird at the feathers of his tail? but isnΒ΄t that to heavy?" it was an unsolveble problem

May I ask about the technology of making such bird sculptures?

Of course!it really is a labour of love. I carve a small body out of wood,then create the beak,feet and eyes from wood,clay and wire. Once the base is set i will add small armatures made from wire for the wings which drill into the body.
Then its cutting out and sticking in place all the feathers that make up the tail and wings,i make a blueprint first so its accurate. Every feather is hand cut with scissors. Once they are done i will go onto the body feathers,again,each one hand cut and then placed with glue,working from the tail to the head,layering as i go.once the whole body and head are feathered i will paint with iridescent acrylic paint as well as normal, and build up the colours as i go.
