History:

Meteor was one of designs created to replace Miranda class ships. With heavy losses of Miranda class during war with Dominion, Starfleet needed new type of ship to replace its large numbers, Saber class was already one of designs that was to replace it, but heavier and larger ship was needed. Meteor is created to be fast and manuverable, to be escort for convoys and lightly armed and protected ships. While capable as explorer it was more used in esocrt frigate role especially in hot spots due heavy armament and defenses that it have.

Class saw first combat in 2381 against Odonans, where they peroform very good against Odonan destroyers. High level of automatic systems (similar to Prometheus class) allows for a small crew, small crew and less costs allow this ship to be built in large numbers, although in 2380-2385 production of this ships was low, it was believed that by the 2390 there will be over 300 of this ships in service.

Crews like this class, mostly because it has great potential as warship as well explorer, there is also lots of commodities on board, hydrophonic garden, large gym for the crew, and two new generation holodecks. One of additional pluses for this class was its capabilities to land on planet surface.
