Description
The Chief interrupts Pussycat after she's successfully scratched her way into Robin's heart (literally). Asking the Boy Wonder who his friend is, Robin responds with "What's it to you, fella?"
While obviously rude, I actually think that's a pretty appropriate question. If a superhero wants to be seduced by lovely lady villain clad in pink what business is it of someone else to pry? What? The Chief's just curious? I don't care, I want Pussycat to have her handsome hero all to herself!
Pussycat is one of the few babes of this series I absolutely prefer with Robin, not really entertaining the thought of her going after Batman at all. I know she's a character in my Sirens of Arkham idea which features Batman as the main playable character, but I do honestly think she's more of a Robin "adversary" and love interest.
It really is shame this series never explores the idea of villainess with a hero at her tender mercy for much longer than a cliffhanger scene or two. While Robin is under the spell, he's either totally committed to crime or unconscious because of the "overdose" of Cataphrenic he's supposedly drugged with. Just an excuse to not explore the concept of the hero being the villainess's plaything. Batman is similarly spared, only pretending to be under Catwoman's spell in the later part as people have already mentioned. Such a missed opportunity...
I really love this sequence for a couple reasons. First, Pussycat's body language when the Chief first questions the duo is timid, clinging to Robin as if frightened. Then Robin almost immediately moves to put himself between the copper and his new squeeze, as if to protect her from harm. Then one she sees her boytoy has the situation handled she grows much bolder in terms of posture. It's a fun little visual thing to analyze, despite probably not being all that meaningful when conceived.
I think we need a new 60s show where Pussycat and Robin end up like this again, only with no interruptions and just a long sequence of the villainess showing Robin just how much she appreciates him...
