Very well drawn. It's rather like...Hmm, how to put it. It's like L has had such a hard childhood, pre-Whammy's House, that even now, as a Whammy's kid, and as L, he still doesn't really expect anything. Sort of sad, when you think about it.

Or B's childhood was that much worse. And, it was kind of L's fault that B went off the rails. In an indirect way, of course, and B was already unstable, which I always thought was more of a genetics thing, rather than a choice of his.

No, some people are born unstable. Some achieve unstableness. And some have unstableness thrust upon them. I think B was born unstable, and then the loss of A, his only friend finished him off. It's not surprising that B wanted the revenge he swore he'd get as he left - A died because he couldn't take the pressure of knowing L as a person. For B to have his revenge, he needed to surpass L in some way. He wouldn't be a better detective - why follow in the footsteps of the one who killed A? All that left was to be brilliant criminal. Which he was, no one could really look at what he did and deny it.
