Description My first piece of animation! Sonic running along, kudos to for the immense helpage (the lightbox and compiling it all together, etc...). I'm hoping to do a bit more over the coming months.

reminds me of the old sonic games and the cartoons . I always liked the old design :I awesome job btw. I'm guessing that the lightbox is a huge help when it comes to animation.

Thanks! I loved the original design too, can't beat the classics!
Yeah, a lightbox is pretty much a necessity. My pal was kind enough to give me his old lightbox, without which I couldn't have made it.

Thanks, it's been years since I did this, I really need to set aside more time for it myself!
Hope you make time for it too, it's such a rewarding artform!

Sanixon [2008-12-30 04:01:06 +0000 UTC]

how many pictures did you have to draw for that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zak29 In reply to Sanixon [2009-03-20 16:04:40 +0000 UTC]

I can't remember exactly, but it was probably around the thirty or forty page mark. Full animation's 24 drawings per second but this was running a little slower than that I think.
Not as slow as this reply though, sorry for the slow response!

Sanixon In reply to zak29 [2009-03-20 17:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Thats okay.
But this is a really awesome. At least now I know that is takes 24 pictures per second to have a second animation.
Well... Better get started. XD

If you're interested in doing your own animations I'd recommend checking out the books 'the animators survival kit' by Richard Williams or 'The Illusion of Life' by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, they're pretty in-depth but very informative!

zak29 In reply to KireFang [2008-05-18 15:27:29 +0000 UTC]

I learnt to draw old fashioned Sonic back when it was the only Sonic! I've been drawing him since I was about 7! Glad you liked the animation man, I really need to try my hand at another one, I've learnt a lot more since I finished this piece!
Thanks for the kind comments!

You have a great sense of 3D, guy. What did you use to make animate this? I am definately faving this!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zak29 In reply to FowderSoap [2007-10-04 06:19:39 +0000 UTC]

Cheers bud! It's all just traditional hand-drawn animation, the frames were scanned in and compiled in (I think) Flash. Thanks for the Fav man, I really appreciate it!

lol, I do love traditional animation but I've still got a lot of time for Pixar's CG output, Ratatouille's an incredible film fer instance!
