I love the idea! Normally we would have seen such a creature in a threathening position towards the girl. But this is different, and it's good! Very good! And well done too!

This is very nice. A very stunning image, kindling feelings of animism. I love your use of green and brown tones.
I think it would look better if wider and with more negative space in the left.
The woman's left arm looks like it's going into the tree-golem-thing's arm. It could be easily fixed with a few brush-strokes.
The depthiness is off a bit--the background feels too close to the foreground. The black edge-tracing around the golem's arm and the girl's upper body detracts, and also contributes the depth problems. The spiderwebing on the mountain contributes to depth issues as well. Try darkening the mountain, particularly near the base, blurring those spiderweb patterns a bit, and thinning or removing the black outlines where appropriate. Try making the the mountain blend in more with the sky, too.
