The Hansa had it's own navy and mercenary army and they actualy did fight wars with England (like the Anglo-Hanseatic War between 1469 and 1474, which the Hansa won

Indeed, something like a guild-mercenary army. Not sure how far I'm going to take this scenario but I've always loved Hansa, some of the first pieces of cartography I did revolved around them

I always thought about, what if the Hansa did not lose importance after America was discovered,
but took the chance and changed their trading to the new world bussiness. Maybe even founding
some colonies and sea bases^^
