Description
Dusk's falling on my decadent reality. My everyday landscape keeps drowning, I'm a microscopic orange stain in a rusty universe. I hope you'll come tonight... Surprising thread of my thoughts, my guide and lover, let me cross again the dark frontier of my fantasies! So close but uncertain to reach, this blurry paradise hides behind my eyelids.Release me... and I'll fade like a drop in the infinite ocean of a dream.

details and making of at zancan.fr
---------------------------------------------------------------
'Below the Rust' is actually my biggest painting (it is 1.2 x 0.8 meters wide), and the one I have spent the longest time on. Five months, doing an average half-time work. The fact is that I can't help myself doing those small details that nobody can see. Using a 1-hair brush on a canvas that wide is totally insane!
This is only oil paint on canvas, but before starting to paint I made many sketches, and even a colorized version with photoshop (to set up the right colors).

I love the idea of the metal tree. The transition from top to bottom is beautifully done.

It is strangely beautiful and even though you think the minuscule brush probably won't be seen by anyone, I am sure it plays a great part in the surreal atmosphere.

awesome looks like one of those sidewalk chalk drawings by Julian Beever that create an illusion of perspective when looked at from a certain angle

Hi! I'm from Italy. I created a comic magazine, "Crossover". The website is www.crossoverstudio.wordpress.com. Crossover is a NO PROFIT magazine, we don't earn money and we can't pay the authors, but a lot of creatives participated with stories and illustrations. Charlie "Walking Dead" Adlard drew the cover for the number 1, "Post Mortem".
Now, we're working on Crossover #2, "Ex Machina", coming out in october. Its theme is the sci-fi. I really like this illustration, can I propose you to use it for the magazine?

its cool and all, but did you intend to have two different perspectives in the upper and lower half of the picture??
because the things that change at the surface of the water suggest that what is below is meant to be part of what is above, but different.. the buildings at the side of the picture, because of the straightness of the lines, the buildings above water are on a different perspective from the buildings, below water.. and even though for a surreal painting, that somehow adds to it, it takes away from the link that you are trying to make between what is above and below the surface leaving the image more disjointed than surreal.
it feels as though you've attempted a fish eye perspective, without the fisheye curves in the verticle lines of the buildings above to link their form to the underwater scape.
sorry for the picky crit there, i mean i could never paint that well, but it just felt like it was something you might not have intended entirely.

Wow.. Really impressive.
I am amazed at the way you can use a picture to showcase a single idea with such ease and grace while the idea in question is actually very complex and would be difficult to explain in any other way. You have a unique and apparent gift for art and the language that it speaks.
