Description
Dusk's falling on my decadent reality. My everyday landscape keeps drowning, I'm a microscopic orange stain in a rusty universe. I hope you'll come tonight... Surprising thread of my thoughts, my guide and lover, let me cross again the dark frontier of my fantasies! So close but uncertain to reach, this blurry paradise hides behind my eyelids.Release me... and I'll fade like a drop in the infinite ocean of a dream.

'Below the Rust' is actually my biggest painting (it is 1.2 x 0.8 meters wide), and the one I have spent the longest time on. Five months, doing an average half-time work. The fact is that I can't help myself doing those small details that nobody can see. Using a 1-hair brush on a canvas that wide is totally insane!
This is only oil paint on canvas, but before starting to paint I made many sketches, and even a colorized version with photoshop (to set up the right colors).

Quite incredible, one of those deviants that I wish I could see in real life. There are potentially many ways to interpret this piece. For me, I see a statement about the transition period of humanity.
The waterscape below is beautifully rendered and serene. It seems to be an ode to all of the best things in our collective past: culture, beauty and strength.
Yet it inexplicably turns to something sinister and barely recognisable above the thin waterline. I have the same impression of the world. This is a wonderful representation /illustration of that line
The future is catastrophised as a stark industrial waste land. The twilight sky seems to imply apocalypse. I like how the scrap metal tree seems to spring without roots. Is that a statement about the unsustainability of peak oil?
The connection between the female figure (humanity? mother nature?) and the fish is immediately heartbreaking. Both subjects have are weighed down, burdened and harsh. Yet they reach for one another with a most desperate and sincere longing in an action which reveals their genuine emotion and need which is still at the centre of their core. I also like that their imprisonment are the opposite yet the same.
In other words, stunning.

Ehh, again with the favorite-spamming, but I just can't help it! Each of your pieces conveys a meaning beneath the considerable beauty I see right there on the surface. I'll end up favoriting your whole gallery at this rate. This is wonderful. I love the contrast of colors above and beneath the water, and it makes me wonder what the rest of this universe looks like! I like the sunset and the light on the water a lot. So so beautiful!

It's one of those pieces that though I can only see part of it, I know there is an entire world to explore beyond the borders.

The thing I love most about this painting is the surreal, eerie beauty of an entire drowned city; the warm yet dreary surface world contrasting with the cool and empty underwater complex. I like particularly how you have meshed the natural and unnatural together and make it look completely right. Everything above is hard-edged whereas below it is soft and elegant; The metal scaled fish, with so much character in its sharply delineated head, sports a flowing tail beneath the waterline; a plain metal cylinder becomes a beautifully whorled tree stump clinging to the top of a tower archway; the woman's wear changing from cold metal to fine fabric.
But it not simply the immediate visual impact that makes your piece outstanding. Looking closer, one begins to realise just how much effort has been put in to creating and painting this. Everything is at such a level of complexity that even if we may not see every detail, we can easily imagine it there; at the vanishing point of the gray warehouses; in the minute, water-obscured mechanisms of the half-machine fish and the myriad ripples it creates; at the ends of the tiny curls of the tree roots; and the patterned facades of the buildings, their stairs slowly descending into obscurity and stretching out in a haze of blinding whiteness.
Lastly, I love the three perspective points; not simply because they add depth, but because you use them so well. Each of the three points convey a sense of limitless space and endlessness, never really 'stopping', but continuing beyond the line of sight. It adds a dream-like quality to the painting, a feeling of it being not-quite-real, but at the same time very true in the emotions of insignificance and ephemerality it evokes.
Great job in completing this, it is absolutely fantastic.

Beautiful picture. I love the concept. Gives off a very strong message. I see an exaggerated image depicting the loss of creativity and originality in our modern day world of artists.
