Description Dusk's falling on my decadent reality. My everyday landscape keeps drowning, I'm a microscopic orange stain in a rusty universe. I hope you'll come tonight... Surprising thread of my thoughts, my guide and lover, let me cross again the dark frontier of my fantasies! So close but uncertain to reach, this blurry paradise hides behind my eyelids.
Release me... and I'll fade like a drop in the infinite ocean of a dream.

'Below the Rust' is actually my biggest painting (it is 1.2 x 0.8 meters wide), and the one I have spent the longest time on. Five months, doing an average half-time work. The fact is that I can't help myself doing those small details that nobody can see. Using a 1-hair brush on a canvas that wide is totally insane!
This is only oil paint on canvas, but before starting to paint I made many sketches, and even a colorized version with photoshop (to set up the right colors).

I agree. It's a wonderful idea to do in Photoshop first then do the real painting. This way you know what's gonna happen.

awesome picture but if you see that metal tree. theres nothing in the water under it. that something you sir forgot unless you ddid that on purpose

xrainxofxbloodx In reply to XNONMACHINE [2013-05-07 23:31:35 +0000 UTC]

Given the fact that the perspective changes in the underwater parts, I'm guessing that the base of the tree is covered up by the fish.

XNONMACHINE In reply to xrainxofxbloodx [2013-05-07 23:49:26 +0000 UTC]

i see but i still doubt that. te tree is far larger thus making the bottom bigger then the fish. and besides the fish at a more acute angle then the tree so the tree wouldn't really be behind the fish

xrainxofxbloodx In reply to XNONMACHINE [2013-05-08 05:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Sir, I don't at all mean to be rude, but do you understand how perspective works?
Looking at the picture again, that base is most definitely hidden by the surface of the water and the fishes tail, due to the way the vanishing point changes between the above water and below parts of the image.

XNONMACHINE In reply to xrainxofxbloodx [2013-05-08 06:33:01 +0000 UTC]

i understand perspective and how angles in water work. a good example is the smaller tree thing left to the girl. see how it bends. now compare the big tree to the fish. the fish is at a tighter angle then the tree. so the fish tail must be a angle negitive from that of a X- axis. but the tree is at a 45 degree anggle(or something close to that) so the bottom half should be at the same angle just negitive from the X-axis. but the bottom tree doesnt show. well you say it could be behind the fish tale. but the fish tail is a bit bouncy, wavy, and couldsee whats behind it thanks to its curve. no tree is shown. the tree is even more to the right then the fish so the bottom tree should be right of the fish too but its not there. now i dont want to start a argument because its art not science. i love the piece. its just something i noticed

I LOVE how you managed to get the slight detail of the broken cement blocks above and the very discreet details of the tree and the fish and of course the fact that above the water the girl has like hardly any muscle but below she has just the right amount. Truly AMAZING work here. Superb Job!!!!! ^_^ LOVE all of the tiny details like the ship in the background and the clouds how they match the pipe trees and of course how you faded the iron "scales" to actual scales on the fish. The random chain is a nice touch and so is the "dripping" number nine. Truly ADORE this piece of art work. Again I say Superb Job!!!! ^_^

I don't know, but.... I actually prefer the surface in this painting. Feels to me like it has more originality and quirks and style about it. I don't mean any disrespect, but.... the "cleaner" below the surface looks too plain and generic and dull to me.
Still an incredibly well done painting though. Just sharing my two cents.
