Description Very long work before releasing this drawing that stretched out over years. This is the one that made me realize that my 'style' was details. Painful work, i must enjoy pain, maybe it makes me live.
The adventure began a very hot day of august in a small and remote village of deep Spain. There was this age-old olive tree in front of me, and in my thoughts this gorgeous curly girl I would never see again. I came back a few times to continue drawing the tree, protected from the hard sun by its distorted shadow. Once back in france I just invented the rest (the intricated ground)
Stupid me,it has been drawn on a bad recycled paper from a sketch block, that turned to yellow. I looks like it is 2 centuries old now.

(I post it again, the previous one I had messed up with upload)

Did you use Laetitia Casta as a reference?

Ten years ago... wow. I'm that old. Ok. Maybe I exaggerated a bit about Laeticia's age What I'm sure is that she wasn't that famous yet.

Ah, well I think she would have actually been a model by that point, because I think she's like 30 now.
You never see her anything any more

The last outcropping before the branches fade into grey, left side of the tree. Is that a face?

Detailing here is incredible; feels like it'd be just terrible to reach out and touch that tree with all its minute crevasses, and that's a good thing.

zancan In reply to Orderbringer [2005-12-21 14:46:54 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm no it's not. Even though it looks alike indeed. The tree was drawn from a real model, in a olive tree field at the frontier between Spain and Portugal. I have touched it once, but it was a long time ago. It would be awesome to find the model back, but I doubt I could locate the place and that the tree is still there.

you have trivialized natures details .. what you call "painful details" you endure it regardless, why?
maybe you think it is necessary, maybe you strive for perfection how could you live with anything else..
i admire that
your lines within the tree and the log at the bottom.. they boggle my mind, the word that comes to mind is "composition", and yours if excellent.
i do hope you appreciate my feedback, as i appreciate you posting this art on DA.
