I love long vertical shots like this - it works against the human field of vision, so it breaks out of the usual pattern of seeing, really gives a different feel to a photo. That overpowering light at the top works well with it too, especially what with the title and I definitely like the way the light stretches down to meet the subject.
The tree branches on the right are kinda annoying, not enough of them to really warrant them being there, would be easy as hell to just paint over em with white. Sometimes overexposure is one heck of a time-saver.
A good way of bordering when neither black nor white seems to work is to have a blurred border instead... think I've still got that long-ass panoramic in my Scraps where I used it, I try not to use it too much, but it ain't half useful sometimes.

hmm, thats a good idea. those branches buggered me as well but i hadnt thought of just whiting them out. i might try it if i get the inclination.
as far as borders go, ive tried them a few times and never liked the results (though on other peoples work it looks damned classy) however the blurred border thing sounds cool, ill have to figure out how to do it so it looks decent though.

You've basically just gotta have the edge selected, as wide as you want the border to be, and use that as a mask for a blurred layer. I tend to stick to Gaussian blur, it works pretty well.
It's usually a good idea to have a line between the blur and the picture, tho, looks a little odd otherwise.
I think they probably don't work on a lot of your stuff cos it's got a real lo-fi feel to it. It'd be like sticking a synthesizer in The White Stripes.

finally fixed that "branches" problem. ended up just "painting" some white right over them in a new layer. dont know why i never got to it before...
