Description
(A map I made using a Victoria 2 basemap)This is basically a Commonwealth-wank map that I made. (I am aware that this may be quite unrealistic, but I personally like the idea of a closer Commonwealth of Nations)
SCENARIO: New England secedes from the United States sometime during the 1860's/1870's, due to the slave states having more power and thus spreading slavery into the new territories in the Midwest, and rejoins the British Empire, which is very eager to take them back to the fold as a dominion. (Based off this scenario that I find very interesting: www.deviantart.com/mobiyuz/art⦠)
Ireland is not treated as a colony, but as a constituent country right from the start (aka Catholics face less discrimination than OTL), much like Scotland and Wales, thus resulting in far less bitterness from the Catholic Irish side. Due to this, (United) Ireland remains a constituent country of the United Kingdom, preventing the Troubles period of unrest as with less bad history, the IRA doesn't grow as popular.
Britain also holds on to Mauritius as a overseas territory comparable to the Falklands, albeit it no longer directly owns any Caribbean islands.
This is because in this timeline, the decision was made to turn the entire British Caribbean into a federalized Commonwealth dominion comparable to Australia or Canada in the late 1960's/early 1970's, thus giving the mostly black population self-rule while keeping ties to the motherland close.
Territory-wise, Australia, Canada and New Zealand remain the same as OTL, but politically, they remain much closer to the UK than OTL, as in this timeline, the (smaller) Commonwealth also serves as a somewhat EU-style organization, with free trade and freedom of movement between all member states. (Basically, the CANZUK proposal has been implemented, but of course including the new Caribbean dominion)
It also is a military alliance, playing a major role in this timeline's Cold War.
However, the former British colonies in Africa and Asia would not be a part of this Commonwealth, as they were not very Angliziced culturally. (South Africa would definitely leave the Commonwealth much like OTL due to the anti-British sentiment amongst the Afrikaner ruling elite during the Apartheid era, Rhodesia is too isolated geographically to be a effective member and Hong Kong still is given up in 1997)
Due to this closer focus on it's former overseas colonies, this United Kingdom would not join the EEC in the 1970's, but nonetheless sign numerous economic agreements with continental Europe to reduce trade barriers.
Nowadays, the Commonwealth remains a internationally relevant organization, with the Royal Family regularly visting all of it's dominions.

I imagine that New England is hated by Americans viewing them as traitors. Also,I imagine the United States would have frosty relations with UK for a long time.

Does the Commonwealth have an Alternate flag that goes with it or is the flag the same as OTL?

Man, my ideas have been going places, thank you.
But I must know; is Pennsylvania also an independent state in this world?

I haven't really thought about any other countries outside of the Commonwealth, so it's up to the viewer I guess...

Alright, cool. Thank you, but I now have another question:
Why are the Barents and White Seas the only ones labeled?

Oh, I forgot to remove these two labels from the basemap
