Robotics expert Dr. Abel Stack was contracted to create a line of sentient robot soldiers for the US military. After the first fifty of these robots proved to failures, Abel decided to take a different approach. He took the robot X-51 into his home and treated him like a son, naming him Aaron and teaching him good human values. When the military tried to seize X-51 however, Abel made a stand and died helping his new son escape. Now on the run, Aaron chose to learn more about humanity and his own emotions. He began using his robotic abilities to help people in need, taking on the superhero name of Machine Man. For a time he became disillusioned with mankind when it seemed he would never be accepted, but he has since reaffirmed his desire to help protect humans and resumed his heroic efforts.
