Description
This is my clay replica of the Stargate from Stargate SG1. The model I used was a picture off Wikipedia as well as a few screen captures. This piece was made out of white clay. I used various lids and batts to create all the circles. I used a stamp for the outside ingravings. All of the symbols were made using very tiny coils put on in sections since small coils don't bend very well.
I used Black Mason Stain to get that grey/black look and I tired using an old clear matte with only one coat. It didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to, but it still has that old look. The symbols were glazed with a Luster Gold commercial glaze. The locking mechanisms were all cut out of a slab using a paper pattern and glazed with Luster Gold, and Red and yellow underglaze.
Overall I think it turned out awesome.
I just wish they had a "Clay" section of art...oddly enough I couldn't find one in any of the other sections.

Oh, I could possibly make another one, but it would cost a lot of money. Mostly cause I don't have most of the tools needed to do clay anymore. I'd have to buy glazes. Most of it I suppose I could do on my own well enough, I'd just have to get glazes and pay to have it fired.

A smaller version would be harder to do since I couldn't use the current one as a template to go by, plus making coils as tiny as the original was hard enough as it is. I would charge more for a smaller one because of this.

I used a stamp for the outer edge which made things a log easier. It was the symbols that were hard as I had to roll out tiny little coils for them.
It was really fun to do though. Thanks for the comment!

It's a bit over a foot in diameter, it's pretty big, much larger than regular minatures.

i finished mine a while about a year ago now it can be seen here [link] mine is quite small compared to yours, therefore less detailed and less accurate than a bigger model, mine ended up being a cross breed between the Atlantis and Earth gates lol. i made mine for a diorama and miniature wargaming use.
i'm thinking about making another gate some time

Oddly enough I only have patience for things that I really want to do. I don't think I'd have a whole lot of patience to do digital artwork myself.

I've developed a sort of patience with digital work, though I've gotten really bored with some pieces and just left them. Really should finish those...

Yep, instead of coming out like a regular stargate, it tends to look like something that was buried for centuries.

ZarineBashire In reply to SarahForde [2007-05-01 17:23:49 +0000 UTC]
Not yet, I mainly have focused on game ponies that no one's ever done before. A lot of people have done senshi ponies.
We could always do a trade later. Now that school's out I have lots more time to work on ponies. The only thing I'd ask you to buy would be the base pony. I have a hard time finding plain white G3 ponies by themselves, the last one I bought came with a baby pony too and it was $13 or so. You might fight it easier to find one, I live where they don't have much selection in any of the stores.
