I really like your Block Script graphic. These days I tend to use a slightly different (simpler) "T". Best, David Kelley

The one based on the character 十, right? I might try that, this 七 doesn't really fit well here...
Anyway, I'm honoured to have the creator himself comment such good words on my work, thank you very much!
Have a good day,
Viva San Marco.

Yeah, that's the one (十) "ten", but sometimes I still use (七) "seven", or even (土) "earth" for a "T". Wish I could send you some of my newest stuff, but don't know how to do it on DeviantArt.com. If you've got some new Block Script stuff of your own you want to show me, we can communicate using: < hamadavid@hotmail.com >. Well, and I'm not really the creator (that would be Xu Bing) of Square Word Calligraphy, or New English Calligraphy, I'm just an innovator, who has written in Chinese characters for 50 years, and thought Xu Bing's system could be improved. So far, you are the only non-Chinese (I think you are anyway, but maybe I'm wrong) who seems to know how to fit the Chinese elements together in near-Chinese (and pleasing) fashion, besides me.

Let's say that my deep interest in languages, writing systems and far-eastern culture all met up together and lead me to your work. Although I am but a mere beginner in the actual Japanese language, the time I've spent browsing through my Kanji character dictionary is far greater than it should have, considering the little use I had for such a book. Doing so, I gained some knowledge of how a character should look, but I've had a fair share of bad-looking characters as well so I'm still perfecting my skills.
I would be pleased to see any type of your work, so I think I'm going to send you a note (basically, this site's private messages) with my mail adress and so on, but as we write I'm working on a new Block Script calligraphy so I might get in touch anyway.
Also, if you have any question about the workings of this website, I would be glad to help you in any way I can, so don't hesitate to ask anything.
Thank you,
Viva San Marco.

My interest in (Asian and all other) writing systems began slowly, too. As I lived and worked in three Asian countries (all my immediate family lives in Asia still), I took lessons on how to write and finally came to write quite properly, in a number of languages. I'm still a full-time professor at an Asian university, where I speak two Asian languages (very badly). Writing in the Block Script form is quite easy, because it is so geometric. It is the calligraphic full-form Chinese character style that is more difficult, but I suspect you can master it. I can give you specific instructions (in about one paragraph) on my method for achieving the most Chinese-like style of writing, if you're interested.

I am very interested actually. Especially some tips about avoiding extra space, because I've having some problems with that recently.
I suggest you could write it as a deviation on your gallery. You can do that by pressing "enter text" on the "Submit art" screen you find in your gallery. Doing so you can already start contributing to the build up of SWC on deviantART, instead of relegating such useful information in a comment.

I could figure out how to send you a couple graphics files here, so I sent it to the "other" address.

Actually, I meant to write "COULDN'T figure out" just above. How do we send graphics to each other in these replies? In the meantime, please check out the two (final version) "Viva San Marco" files that I sent to your "other" address.
