Description
Someone wondered if Gaster talked to the brothers about the birds and the bees so to speak, but I doubt he would since thinking about the future of skeletons probably just gets him depressed, existentially speaking. INSTEAD HERE'S THIS FLIPPANT THINGIndex

Well, yes. But that is why you don't see a family with a while bunch of baby skeles. Of course, I think that there are a few treatments that can help rejuvenate SOULS, since many monsters have probably crashed their SOUL or have suffered severe trauma to their SOUL.

I doubt the soul-tearing theory would work for Papyrus or Sans in this scenario, since they have less soul to start with.

Uhhhh, really? I mean, if you look at Zarla's previous arts, they seem to have normal SOULs.

Except Sans' is way smaller. Eh, it might work for one more generation. Maybe he could make a flying skull thing for a pet. At least their SOULs aren't partially converted to raw code like they were later on in Handplates, since Gaster wasn't retconned out of existence in any Mercyplates scenario.

Well actually, for my theory it would be able to continue on for the rest of time. My theory is that the baby SOUL matures into a fully developed SOUL, regardless of the parental SOUL's states. This would explain why there are no children down in the Underground with disabilities (unless you count MK, but I think that's more of just his species than anything else). And before you say anything, Gaster's SOUL only became that way because he didn't have kids the natural way.
(We bump into each other quite oftwn, don't we!)

But because Sans and Papyrus weren't made the natural way, would that have an effect on the process?

I don't think so, their SOULs are fine (relatively speaking) and so if they had children their SOULs MIGHT not so very well for a while, so maybe only a couple children? But the next generation would be fine.

Sans has 1 HP. He's literally never fine. Papyrus might be able to handle it, though.

Yeah... But there's just a tiny little problem... In order to have fully skeletal children... The skeleton brothers would have to go through the process.
(I don't ship Fontcest, just pointing out the obvious! Please don't hate me anyone who is reading this conversation in the future!!!)

I'm not worried, since the problem I previously mentioned would quite harshly punish them for commiting Fontcest.

Holy crap this is a really good theory. Oh well, now we know the real reasons monsters are having less and less children.

Yeah, this theory can apply to other monsters, like with Alphys and Undyne. It doesn't matter that they're the same gender, so long as two monsters have a SOUL, they can potentially create life.

Why do they even have genders or gender identities, then?

Skeletons can actually be identified as male and female! ^_^ The shape of the pelvis bone is the primary indicator. And considering that biological gender is really just a question of outer markers, this would be just as deciding for their gender as it would be for humans.
In fact, it has been shown that monsters in Undertale that have no outward biological traits (For example: ghosts) are considered gender-neutral and are referred to as they/them.
How all of this relates to reproduction is not something that Undertale itself touches on, as the only parents that we know of are Toriel and Asgore, who are a regular heterosexual couple with actual flesh bodies and who are of the same species.

Given the huge variety of monster morphologies there are probably more than a few extra gender identities. Instead of just "male" and "female", maybe we have "squishy" Moldsmals and "jiggly" Moldsmals, for example.

Ooh, yes! I love this idea!!! Because honestly, if there are other beings in the universe, I think it's silly to assume that they all are either male or female, there's probably at least another gender out there for some species.

jjars In reply to adoptionsnowcone [2018-07-06 10:13:37 +0000 UTC]
Of course. Some intestinal parasites have three genders and a reproduction process that requires switching to a different species of host. It certainly gets complicated. Of course, Undertale genders would be much funnier to talk about than tapeworms.

My job is at Walmart, which actually fulfilled my dream: to have someone say, "This looks like a job for ___!" where ___ is my name, which I'm not giving out online. I am the other employees' go-to expert on finding groceries at Walmart.

Yep. Sometimes five or more people ask me different questions, and it feels great being able to answer them all right away. I'm like some kind of Superassociate.
"Hello, and welcome to Walmart! Paper plates? Aisle K2, which is behind the candy -- head to the back of the store and turn right. Molasses? A20, top shelf, above the pancake syrup. Rice? All long the lower shelves of A12. Baking soda? A17, over the flour. Lemon juice? Either the yellow bottles on the middle of the top shelf of A19, or hidden in little lemon-shaped bottles among the actual lemons in the produce section at the front of the store. Raisins? On the front of the snack section, which you can't see until you walk past the cereal; the dried fruits are next to the Slim Jims. Thank you for shopping at Walmart!"
Then at the end of the work shift, I change back into my gruff-mannered alter ego and vanish into the parking lot.

Yeah. Sometimes the problem is something I don't have authorization to handle, so I have to find a manager. Also, they don't give low-level employees like me a walkie-talkie, so if something spills, I have to just stand there and direct customers around the puddle until a manager happens to walk by. Which lets me take a break from walking for a few minutes, so it's all good.

jjars In reply to adoptionsnowcone [2018-07-15 21:05:39 +0000 UTC]
It's mostly not, actually. My actual job description involves waking up at 4 in the morning and then pushing heavy carts around all day, while obeying conflicting instructions from two or three different managers. The customer service is just something every associate is expected to do, and the spills I would have to guard are generally my fault, so I have to hang around the sticky, stinking proof of my failure. The problem with glass jars is they never seem to just break -- they explode, scattering shards of broken glass all the way across the aisle. And then I have to convince people who often don't speak the same language to not cross the spill, and whether they listen or not is up to them.

maybe the soul can regenerate themselves. only, you know, it takes a long time. like how it takes a while for the baby to develop.

I don't know, it would be extremely strange for only some types of a species to repreduce differently to the rest, supposedly they would all be made the same way, magic. Even if skeletons are the only one we can visibly see have no organs, the others probably don't either since they are literally made of magic. Besides, they turn to dust. To have organs they would bleed, sure Sans' does in his fight but I wouldn't be surprised if thats just some sort of prank thing, I don't think him dying was a prank but bleeding, I could imagining it being set up before his death coincidentally setting a blood wound. Sorry rant, I just can't see that logically working.

i guess... also, speaking of sans bleeding, i think that's because of DT since that stuff is red. it could also be ketchup (at least that's what i heard from some users), but i don't think so cause of other reasons.
