A few little notes:
-Sans approaches from Gaster's blind side. Gaster mentioned being blind in that eye to Papyrus a long time ago . The same eye he blinded Sans in !
-It was the smoke that Sans was smelling in the last one.
-Seeing Alphys and seeing her with the brothers, and the full ramifications of what that means for him, shocks Gaster so badly that it gives Sans just enough time to reach him.
-If Gaster hadn't been so resistant about safety rails , they probably would've been finished in that section.
-Sans did not expect anyone to catch him.
-There was a small window of time where Papyrus could have caught Gaster with blue magic and saved him, and he would have, too... if Gaster hadn't severely traumatized Papyrus about using blue magic .

"The toughest people make the hardest decisions." they say. It seems as people forgot what Gaster has done for monsterkind and where he came from.
Dr. Gaster is a HERO in my book. He gave his people hope, he gave his bestfriend (Asgore) hope, hope that one day they will all leave the mountain and live in peace on the surface but in order to do so he must perform demoralizing experiments on subjects 1 & 2, (Which may I remind you, they are not his children. It's like you're saying if a mosquito takes your blood to create her children the baby mosquitoes are immediately your children.) and push their souls to the very limits to see if they would be able to pass the barrier or even could save the skeletons. (assuming he was the only one left, ofc)
Not only that he tried to stop his bestfriend from becoming a murderer, he made an insecure lizard feel accepted for what she does, and he created the CORE for everyone in the underground's convenience. He is a hero in my book.

But this AU is where LOVE corrupts Dr. Gaster. In UNDERTALE, canonically, we know nothing about Gaster.

You sure you're in the right fandom? The whole moral basis of Undertale is that the ends don't justify the means. The human can live without killing monsters, and the monsters get their freedom without killing Frisk. I find the "they are not his children" argument to be irrelevant--they're still kids. They're still sentient beings. Whether or not they are his doesn't change the fact that his experiments involve torturing kids.
I get the argument that this is the lesser evil--I'm not sure I agree, but I get it--but let's not pretend it isn't an evil nonetheless. And sure, Gaster has done a lot of good for monsters, but people have the capacity to do good and evil both in their lives, without either invalidating the other.

I don't know what to think of the fact that Sans was willing to kill himself to supposedly protect Papyrus from Gaster. It's cute, sad and honestly just... I don't even know!

well its still tortute but at the end of the day gaster does what he believed was right not by torturing them but rather making them something that can help to cross the barrier and not make his friend become a murderer but by doing so and so many characters make the same mistake what he does goes over what should be right he does things that aren't good believing in something he believed in there's also the theory that he had gained LV which led him to be more cold and that he couldn't turn back on his choice till the end

I know this will happen eventually, but I really didn't wish to see it. Gaster is cruel to them, but he changes, and Alphas find out the brother, so it might have a better way to let them both live happily. But we all know Gaster will and need to be disappear...ohh
