Gaster was probably attempting to do something 'useful' like show Sans a particularly difficult equation or concept online, and poor little guy fell asleep. Gaster had to wrestle mightily with himself at first, as he was angry at getting 'ignored', but eventually settled in to do some heavy reading himself.Β
. . . why he hasn't lifted Sans off yet is a mystery even unto himself.

Papyrus just learned to use social media because he heard people can friend you there, but had no friends other then Sans.
Sans drags Gaster to comp forces him to friend Papyrus and supervises him as a long conversation ensues so he doesn't blow his cover.
Papyrus and his endless enthusiasm manage to outlast Sans and his narcolepsy(?) resulting in this scene.
At the very least its the only way i can explain this.

I'd have to assume this is the timeline when he saved them as babies, but... I wonder what would happen if this was *after* he put the plates on 'em. Could this even happen in that timeline? Where Sans would trust him enough to just kinda pass out there and Gaster was alright with it?

Ok so, basically, either papyrus picked sans up and set him carefully onto Gaster oooor Faster picked up Sans while sans was asleep and he did it in a way that sans, while asleep, thought it was papyrus, or just didnt care enough to move at the moment.Β
