Hey gang!The response to my new Calvin and Hobbes piece was a bit overwhelming. It will take me a long while to get through all the comments so please bear with me.
In the meantime, here's a workflow of that same piece. A bunch of buddies and I ( ) have started an email thread where we share work-in-progress stuff, give each other advice, and, as a result, save out step-by-step versions of things. Here's the latest!
The original sketch was done in January. It was very rough and on brown paper so that's why it looks like garbage. I knew if I ever got around to painting it I would have to tighten it up... a lot.

You're probably going to kill me for saying this, but I think I like the sketch better than the finished piece. It's just sooooo good! There's so much personality there! And the way the line weights separate the girl from the table from Calvin is so striking. It reads in a way that's so much more immediate, clean, and pleasing. You're so good at line work that it's like you're robbing us when you paint over it!
