I've always been a Nintendo kid; since I was very little until now, and that's never changed. In my most formative years, Banjo-Kazooie was my favorite game and favorite characters. When the announcement came that Microsoft was acquiring RareWare, I felt incredible sadness. Somehow I knew nothing good would come of this. RareWare, the best game studio of the 90s had a beautiful relationship with Nintendo, and Microsoft didn't seem like the right fit... and sure enough, it wasn't. Banjo-Kazooie, having been such an icon of the late golden era of gaming was a natural fit to be in Smash Bros. He belonged. He should've been included in Melee, the second game of the series. But alas, that didn't happen and my favorite game series died.

Another game series would take its place just a short year later.

I've been a competitive Smash Bros. player since 2003. 2003. I've been playing Smash Bros. since it's day 1 release on the Nintendo 64, back on January 21, 1999. I remember asking my mom to skip my main Xmas present and get me Super Smash Bros instead a month later; I already knew it was going to be something special from seeing it in the pages of Nintendo Power. Despite my years of Smash, I've always felt like my character was missing. I even mained Duck Hunt in Smash 4 since it seemed like his inclusion was as a sort of spiritual understudy for a bear and bird duo that has been missing in action for quite some time.

Fast forward to last week.

I never react much to reveal trailers. I'm old, I've seen it all, I've learned to let things go. With that said, the trailer actually brought tears to my eyes. I thought I didn't care anymore about such things, especially with there being SO many characters now, and really amazing fan made mods of smash games. But yes, the official reveal of Banjo-Kazooie unleashed years of emotion, of painfully waiting for something that wasn't coming in any form, bouncing from one character to the next, and enduring the let downs of Nuts and Bolts and Yooka-Laylee.

Better late than never, the bear and bird are finally coming home where they belong.

Even though I'm gearing up for a show this saturday, I immediately started working on a Banjo-Kazooie sculpture after watching E3. It was really challenging, but I finished them in about 4 days. I wish I wouldn't have rushed him so much, because they aren't very structurally sound. He's mostly made out of plasticine which isn't suitable for selling anyway, but I was at least able to make this cool image for you guys. So I hope you enjoy and hope you're as excited as I am for the next round of DLC characters!
