Description Ever wonder if you're a typical zany cartoon artist, making some trippy stuff, and gets pointed out that it reminds them of a certain popular 1990s cartoon show featuring a hot-tempered chihuahua and an idiot cat? Me neither. Ever since few people like the great GnostickComics talking about some characters reminds them of the works of Ren and Stimpy (for example, my blue monster Savory reminds them of Wilbur Cobb during the Bob Camp run), I have no choice but to draw those guys. And it was really fun drawing them anyway.

Let me tell you about Ren and Stimpy. The show was at start to be one of the questionably inappropriate shows for a children's programming at time. Since season 2, the show filled with lightly heavy grossouts, sexual innuendo, shock value, and even small gore. Sometimes, the show even implements political references too. Those materials just stand out from other children shows at time not only it catches kids' attention but non-sensitive adults as well. It's amazing how those contents lasted for five seasons, even after Nickelodeon fired the creator for deadline issues (previously rumored that the "banned" episode Man's Best Friend is the reason for its fight scene but that's not the case). An adult revival Adult Party Cartoon was made in 2003 but that didn't turn out as great as well as the original. Another revival for Comedy Central is currently in the works so we have to keep our eyes peel for this. Hopefully it fixes the flaws what the APC delivers.

Now how, I got into R&S. Ever since when I was a young kid, I used to be afraid of this show for some reasons: the grossouts, butts, and Ren Hoek (at time, I thought he was a possum because of his "appearing/disappearing" pink tail. All of that made me a tad bit uncomfortable but for some reasons, I find that show a bit appealing for few things including the music. So many years later around early 2010s, when I become a young teenager, I see this show available on Comcast on-demand as I give it another chance. Getting ready to man up and fire up one of the episodes of the show starting from with Stimpy's Big Day to one of the episodes around season two. From there, my mind on seeing Ren and Stimpy change entirely! I went on looking at other works by Spumco with teams done few earlier works such as the 1986 music video Harlem Shuffle or Ralph Bakshi's 1987 revival of Mighty Mouse (both of them are really good so check it out), searching up few of the team who worked on this show and drawing some inspirations from it too. It's no wonder why this zany show, Spumco or Nickelodeon Animation Studio (formerly Games Animation) is so special and why it still holds up today!
Speaking of few teams, beside John K (despite his career nearly ruined) there's some of my favorite directors and storyboard artists who worked on R&S: Bob Camp, Jim Smith, Tom McGrath, Billy Wray, Chris Reccardi (I'll miss you) and Vincent Waller,
