Description Hey it's Marine again... >_>
I wanted to try different styles of faces and coloring.
I tried to keep the nose shape and the hair color/length about the same so she would still be recognizable.

If I had to choose one (and I probably will) I think I would go with the First one of the Third row.
What do you think?

This is really intresting to see! Wonderful how many different looks small and big changes in style can offer for the same character

Heh, just realized this is a year and a half old. You've probably picked one by now.

zazB In reply to FieldsOfFire [2011-10-29 19:33:41 +0000 UTC]

Well not really, I'm still working on the concept of the whole story so the characters are still changing

FieldsOfFire [2011-10-20 04:54:23 +0000 UTC]

Man, this is great. I always find it so difficult to draw in different styles like this.

It's tough to pick one because they each say different things. I like the 7th and 8th ones a lot. I'd say (and obv. you don't have to listen) don't use 2, 4, or 5 because it's so stylized it kind of makes the style more important than the character.

love how you just whipped out all these different styles for one character~
my favorite is the last one in the second row.

I really love how you colored Marine on the last one of row one. How did you do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zazB In reply to ChevronRae [2010-11-22 12:15:03 +0000 UTC]

I think it was one of the simplest. Flat colors, I colored the lines too and a layer (in overlay) with a light yellow and dark blue gradient on top of all that.. I could be wrong, it's been a long time, but I think it was that way that I colored it.

justjingles [2010-10-19 22:26:52 +0000 UTC]

The first one from the first row looks like it came most naturally to you. The first one in the third row looks comparatively forced. Does that make sense?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zazB In reply to justjingles [2010-10-19 23:48:52 +0000 UTC]

What is strange is that it's actually the oposite. the first one was longer to render because it's not a style I'm very used to. First in third row however, is my 'default style', if I have one

CodexWriter [2010-09-14 01:08:52 +0000 UTC]

I like all the faces in the third row and the third face in the second row the best.

It's lovely. Such a variety of styles, but still so clearly the same character. Beautiful work!

I like the fourth one in the second row, personally!

Great style variation in all of these, though. Wonderful work.

Zilabus [2010-07-18 23:22:45 +0000 UTC]

The great range you have really inspires me, and I hope to one day have this much skill. The fact you can change from style to style with such ease, and still make it obvious that you're portraying the same character is quite impresive. I feel as though you would make a wonderful characture artist at fairs and such (and I mean that in the best way)

Although, I wonder, what skin color is she supposed to be? There's a great variety here.
Favorites:
Center row, second one from the left.
Top row, second one from right.

zazB In reply to Zilabus [2010-07-21 16:06:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
The place she comes from has a climate similar to the mediteranean climate. I don't know the name of the skin color but it is similar to what you will find in some north African countries I guess
Why?

Zilabus In reply to zazB [2010-07-22 19:26:40 +0000 UTC]

I just thought it was interesting. Most comic artists make even ethnic characters a pretty light tone, for the ease of contrast, I figure, so I thought it was neat that you went in a different direction.

I'm definately looking forward to seeing more original characters you come up with.

Very intersting styles and coloring differences ^_^

Personally i'd pick the first one in the second row .. i really her like her face shape, the bold lines and overall feeling of sketchiness .. she is my fav version of Marine

I love how they're all unique in their own way, but you can still tell it's the same character. I think I like the 3rd row, first one the best too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

kaunartist [2010-06-01 19:19:12 +0000 UTC]

First one, second row would be a good balance between sketchyness and solid line, and also matches the more cartoon-ish style you do for far-away characters as mentioned on the Witch and the Prince. Last one, first row is beautiful but it seems it could cause problems with conveying complex scenes.

TheEchoEffect [2010-05-06 17:03:52 +0000 UTC]

You are so talented to be able to do all these different styles! I like the one you picked, but also the fourth one from the first row, and the first and third one from the third row.

First one third row, but please do keep the others as secondary or background characters.

zazB In reply to EdGarcia [2010-04-24 14:43:29 +0000 UTC]

I could not really do that, because most of them would not be in the same style and they would also all look very similar

Sebbythefreak [2010-04-22 02:02:41 +0000 UTC]

UrbanMelon [2010-04-17 00:14:36 +0000 UTC]

I prefer the style of last one in the 1st row, because of its simple, subtle line quality, although I think the haircut and the expression of the 1st one in the 2nd row is the best.

elviella [2010-04-15 14:56:57 +0000 UTC]

This is just...freaking awesome. Fantastic, really! I like them all individually, but when all together it is ever better, since one can see how the basic facial features are similar despite the different styles, and uum... the general greatness of it?

My favourites:
1st and 3rd from the 1st row
1st from the 2nd row, even though I adore the colouring of the 4th one as well
1st and 3rd from the 3rd row.

Last one of the second row was one of the runner-ups for my favorite. I'll probably end up doing a mix of 3 or 4 of them.
