Description The Ocean Goddess Quara was the first to give life back to the planet after the desolation of the War of Orina'Ve. She created six species that would be know as the "Maej'Nse," those born into the world before life on land came to be. Her forth children were the Neldius. Beneath the Jacarith Sea lies their kingdom of the same name. It was the intention of their creator that life in the oceans belonged to and was controlled solely by her. For this reason each tribe of the Maeji'Nse would take up the task of nurturing the younger ones. The Tameidrin guided them in the principles of government, economics, and religion. The Aralune taught them about music and blacksmithing. From the Naiathan they learned art and architecture. It was in these two fields they would show great prowess.

As with all of Quara's children, they are known throughout the seas, as well as, the surface-world for their trade crafts. The specialty craft of the Neldius is artwork, specifically, painting and sculpture. They adapted the techniques the Naiathan used to dye fabrics to creat paint in all the colors of the ocean. Even their weapons reflect their love of painting. Often using bone, shell or hide as a base, their pictures have become an item of high value, not only for the materials used, but for their skill.

They are a very nature oriented species, having built their settlements, into and around their natural surroundings with great vision and design. It is thought for this reason they were chosen as the first of two aquatic races to form colonies on the surface world. When the goddess Diem created the first land species, the Melusine, Quara saught to maintain influence above the seas. She chose the Neldius to colonize the same continent and serve as her eyes and ears in the overworld.

The Neldius were the first aquatic species to live on land. This has lead to a slight discoloration of their skin. Their dull blue-grey tone has become more purple-grey; thought to be a cause of exposure to the sun. However, the darker blue shade that follows the top of their nose to the back of their skull remains the same. On the top of their head are dark markings; it is said that no two Neldius have the same pattern. They are one of the shortest aquatic species standing and at an average height between 4'11 and 5'6. The gills on their sides also allow respiration on land.

Awesome!! Again, your attention to detail always amazes me I think it's so cool that you chose their "claim to fame" as it were, as painting! I would have never have thought to stick the two together, so it's a neat pairing. I also like the fact that they dwell on land too.

One slight, hardly mentionable critique is that perhaps their heads are too big? Proportion-wise, it kinda sticks out, but I understand that may just be because I'm looking at them like humans and not as a different race...

But still! Wicked concept. I'm excited that you mentioned land-based races too! It starts to tie everything together I'm looking forward to the next one!!

Now that you mention, their heads are a little bit large. I'm not sure why I didn't pick up on that earlier. I think its definately more obvious on her. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thank you so much for coming back. This puts 4 out 6 aquatic species drawn. I am working on 5 at the moment, so you can bet you will be getting another note when I finish. Thanks again!!!

I do think it is great, If I would be able to color like that without digital Photoshop, I wouldn't need PS.

Interesting, they look like the Zora race from Zelda Twilight princess.

Quite the attractive race! I wouldn't mind being a intelligent aquatic being.
