Also, every Crash game after the first doesn't require D-Pad control. You can play them with the Stick. Crash 2 seems to play better with the D-Pad, though.

Ah, that's fantastic... This D-Pad control can be pretty tricky in levels like... the boulder levels, but I'm glad 2 improves on it. I hope you don't have to beat Bonus Stages to save every time in 2 onward.

LOL
Crash 2 and onwards use a traditional save system. You can save anytime you're in the HUB. Crash 2/3 are also considered the best games in the series, and whether you like one over the other is a matter of preference. 2 has a better balance of difficulty, while 3 has more variety in its gameplay as well as Time Trials.

Once you finish up with the PS1 games, I suggest you either try Crash Team Racing, or move on to the PS2 with Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity. There's also a GBA duology that you might enjoy as well, Huge Adventure and N-Tranced.
However, I suggest ignoring... pretty much every Crash Bandicoot game published after 2005. Twinsanity came out in 2004.

Yeah... I'm probably going to play them all in order of their release. I may even try the games after 2005 if I'm seriously bored or curious enough.

AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-23 18:41:27 +0000 UTC]
I see. When it comes to multiplatform releases though, always go for the PlayStation version since those tend to be the "main" versions, for obvious reasons. The one exception is the Mutan duology of "Crash of The Titans" and "Crash Mind Over Mutant". With those two it's best to go with either Wii or Xbox 360, though the PS2 versions aren't "Bad", just inferior.

AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-23 22:06:17 +0000 UTC]
Mobile games are definitely not worth anyone's time. They're all shovelware.
Some people liked Tag Team Racing. I've tried to get into it a couple times, but I just don't think it's a good game at all. It tries to blend platforming and racing, but it doesn't do either aspect well at all. The best Crash Bandicoot racing games are Team Racing on PS1 and Nitro Kart on PS2/GCN/Xbox.

AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-24 01:18:32 +0000 UTC]
It's almost as great as Crash Team Racing. It has fewer tracks, though. The character roster is also mostly different, but it DOES let you play as Oxide, which you couldn't do in the original without a cheat device. You lose Ripper Roo, Komodo Joe, Papu Papu, and Pinstripe as racers though.
The story mode is overall better however, since you have cutscenes, and you also get to pick between two campaigns with some extra stuff for completing both. That's probaly why there are fewer tracks in the game(Or it could have been time constraints, who knows), so that it doesn't take as long to beat story mode.
For some reason the media and fans criticized it heavily. I can't remember the reasons, but I imagine it's a combination of some people being pissy over it not being developed by Naughty Dog, maybe the fact it has fewer tracks than the original game, who knows.
Personally, I think it's the best Kart Racing game on PS2 and Xbox. Gamecube of course has Mario Kart, so I can't say it's better than good old Mario Kart, you know?

I see. From what I see (glancing at its Wikipedia page) it looks pretty good, it's just the fans dislike it because... not Naughty Dog. XD

That's a prime reason for almost all of the post-PS1 era Crash Bandicoot games. I think the only truly bad games are the mobiles games, Crash Boom Bang, and Crash Tag Team Racing(This one being the least terrible of the bunch).

More like Crash Boo-Boo. It's strange, though. The GBA got a pretty decent output of Crash games, but then the DS only received Boom Bang and ports of the mutant games. I hear the DS port of Crash of the Titans plays like the PS1 games, but is insanely short... something like 4 levels or something like that.

Oh wow. I think I'm nearing the end of Crash Bandicoot, actually. I beat Koala Kong and I'm now on the 3rd level of Cortex's island.

AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-24 21:16:40 +0000 UTC]
That's actually the halfway point. Kong's the 3rd boss, and there's six of them including the final boss.
Congrats on beating Sunset Vista. It's one of the hardest levels to get the Gem on. I lucked out and managed to get it my first try(Going for a gem not playing the level). Ended up having more trouble with Slippery Climb, and Fumbling In The Dark.
After Kong, I believe the next level is Heavy Machinery. The most important thing, though, is that the third island contains all but one colored gem. You need the colored gems in order to get some of the standard gems in certain levels. Here's a brief list of what levels gives what color;
The Lost City - Green Gem
Toxic Waste - Blue Gem
Generator Room - Orange Gem
Slippery Climb - Red/Pink Gem
Lights out - Purple Gem (You need the Yellow Gem for this)
The Lab - Yellow Gem
The Lab also happens to be the last proper level, because what comes after it is a "bonus" level named The Great Hall. You need all of the White Gems to get to the end of it, and at the end is a 100% ending. Otherwise, you step into the normal exit and proceed to the final boss for the normal ending, which is also the "canon" ending.

Hm.. I see. Thanks for the information. The gems are an absolute nightmare to get from what I see. Not only must you not die, but you must destroy every box. Pretty crazy if you ask me. o_o But hey, this game can be hard regardless.

AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-24 21:57:10 +0000 UTC]
True. Even if you're not going for the gems, some of the levels are still pretty hard regardless of the amount of checkpoints.
Here's a tip to get extra lives. Get the Green Gem in The Lost City, then when you reach a level called "Castle Machinery", take the Green Gem lift. It will take you to a path with over 20 lives. You can do this every time you load up the game, but not every time you load up the level.

OH! You'll also need to find two keys. One is hidden in Sunset Vista and one in Jaws Of Darkness. You need to break boxes and find three Cortex "tokens". They're found in the same way as Tawna Tokens to get to regular bonus rooms. These ones tend to be harder, though, but they will give you a key which unlocks a level. These secret levels are required for 100%, since they house gems.

TheBlackHoodedGamer In reply to AzureTranquility95 [2013-07-25 16:34:36 +0000 UTC]
Erg.. yes.. That is remarkably true. Especially since the manual (Yeah, I read that.. woo...) doesn't give any hints to where they are or what they do.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AzureTranquility95 In reply to TheBlackHoodedGamer [2013-07-25 17:45:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, really. They could have at least put a little blurb saying "There are two keys hidden in the islands of Crash Bandicoot, it's up to you to find them and unlock their secrets!", or something to that effect. At least then you'd know you have to find two keys on top of the 26ish gems.
Also, regarding your question of Crash Bandicoot mobile games, I forgot that they actually ported the original PS1 game to mobile phone, but I think it's specific to a Sony Phone or something like that. I don't know anything about it, but if I had to hazard a guess, I imagine it's a near-accurate port, but I could be wrong.
